book I shall have time to read during my upcoming holiday.

With two small dc I know there will be precious little time to lounge around the pool with a book and an ice cold drink but I would love to enjoy reading again during the hopefully peaceful evenings.

It can't be crime or thriller sorry but want to relax not feed my tension

Not too 'clever' baby brain won't allow it but definitely nothing too shallow either please. Thought inspiring rather than mind boggling iyswim.

Historical novels are usual up my street but not Kate Mosse.

Could even be non-fiction if really readable and entertaining.

Does anyone feel like recommending a good read? Tia! Cake

I second Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor, lighthearted and easy to read but also very interesting.

Definitely not Gone Girl or We Need To Talk About Kevin if you want something relaxing and stress-relieving!
I suggest David Sedaris, his best is probably Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim - it is nonfiction, short vignettes about his childhood, and the kind of thng you can read a chapter of and then come back to later if you are distracted.

Longbourneq by Jo Baker. It is historical and ideal for a holiday read. Good storyline and fascinating insight into Georgian life.

Sorry the q shouldn't have been on the ending of Longbourne .

My favourite holiday read is The Island by Victoria Hislop. (Especially good if you happen to be going to Crete!) Not chick lit but not heavy going, interesting, and very readable!

I was stuck on the train and the only thing I had to read was my sister's copy of Hunger Games. Didn't want to read it as I thought it was too dark with children killing each other, but it was amazing. Nearly missed my station I was so engrossed.

Wolf Hall and Bringing Up the Bodies
The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt)

I Capture the Castle is one of my all-time favourites along with Cold Comfort Farm.

Hunger Games is a good trilogy, and the earlier Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) books are lots of fun.
