Is 12 years a slave worth ploughing through?

It was 50p on amazon for the kindle, I've heard good things about it but I'm really struggling to find something to hold onto to keep me reading it.

Am I alone?

I've got it too...haven't started it yet. Any thoughts?

I enjoyed the abridged version read on Radio 4 recently, thinking about listening to the audiobook (unabridged).

I think it's a tale that lends itself better to being read to you.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking duchess i need to be told the story, it's oral history not written history. Plus I'm struggling with the style of the writing.

I have read it and I enjoyed it but it did take me until around 100 pages before I really started to enjoy it fully. It is worth ploughing in with IMO. I watched the film after reading the book and the film was crap in comparison. I was really disappointed with the film.

I've just given up on it as well - I read a lot and will read anything but I couldn't get into it. Read well over half and I never give up a book.

It's free on project Gutenberg :X

Lovely flowery writing almost distracts from the unrelenting grim subject. Off to see the film tomorrow hope Mr Ejiofor does not disappoint
