never heard of them - I was more a Milly Molly Mandy girl

southeastastra · 29/08/2006 12:35

yes and did you see the tv show? (think it was called the same thing) with sarah greene?

MrsBadger · 29/08/2006 12:36

yes!

have a copy bought for me when I was about 8 from a 'damaged books' sale at the library
it was missing the first two pages and it was years before I discovered how it actually began.

Though I thought it was most unrealistic as they got to go out by themsleves and spend money in cafes etc etc which I never did. Noel Streatfeild was more my line.

MrsJohnCusack · 29/08/2006 12:38

they were fantastic

also loved Noel Streatfield - all the 'Shoes' books and Gemma

Lilymaid · 29/08/2006 12:40

Were these the books by Pamela Brown where the kids ran their own theatre? If so, yes - I read all the ones in our local library and wanted to be an actor.

MrsBadger · 29/08/2006 12:51

oh, I loved the Shoes ones, though they weren't written as a series - just rebranded as a publisher's gimmick.
I especially liked the ones set in London - Ballet Shoes (duh) and Curtain Up (which I think was reissued as Theatre Shoes) about three children at the same school as the Ballet Shoes girls but later, during the war.
And the weird ones like Apple Bough (Travelling Shoes?) and the Painted Garden (now Movie Shoes I think)
