The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Hi all, I downloaded a sample chapter and think I was enjoying it, but I dont know!!! It's a bit on the expensive side on kindle (well more than I usually spend!!) so is it worth it??? Any reviews would be great, thanks a mil.

Frankly

Brilliant and one of the best books I have ever read but grim.

Beaten only by A Fine Balance but mainly because that was described to me as 'a triumph of human spirit'. Good book but man alive ... sniff

I didn't think it was great, just okay. It didn't seem to be doing anything that I hadn't read lots of times before tbh. I do think it was better than, 'No Country For Old Men' though, which I thought was a load of tripe.

Dp loved both of them.

Well I finished it, wasn't gone on it tbh, and don't think I'll even bother with no country, it didn't appeal to me, it was bleak, and I do like a good bleak story but jeez this was the worst kind. Ah well good to know now Cormac McCarthy, not for me ;-) cheers for all your reviews though, my dh thought the film of this was brilliant and is now going to read it!!

I wish I'd never read it, it gave me nightmares
