Book 8 Half Bad by Sally Green. I was lucky enough to get a MN copy. I think I enjoyed it! I will probably read the second one when it comes out but I'm not sure if I really like the main character very much

  1. Ian Rankin "Knots and Crosses " enjoyed this one
UniS · 04/04/2014 20:40

#31 - One shot kill - Robert Muchamore - another Henderson boys story, derring do in world war two.
#32 - Scorched Earth - Robert Muchamore - The last in the Henderson boys set. in which a major character is killed ( as opposed to all the minor ones who have been getting shot or blown to bits all the way through the series), and we find out what happened to some of them after the war.

#33 Crap days out -Gareth Rubin- a whistle stop tour of Great British tourist attractions so you don't have to go and find out how crap they are for yourself.

Audio books
How to train your Dragon.

  1. Notes on a Scandal by Zoë Heller. 10 times better than the book, a very creepy tale that was superbly written. The level of perception amazed me.
AntiJamDidi · 05/04/2014 13:15
  1. Blood Politics - Helen Harper
Book 4 in the Bloodfire series. Mack is being followed by representatives of the shifters, the mages and the fae. Then she is asked to help some dryads who are in trouble, and a new adventure begins where Mack brings together some unlikely allies to face a greater evil than any of them ever imagined. And she even fits some romance in amongst all the danger.

  2. Bloodlust - Helen Harper
The fifth and final book in the Bloodfire series. Mack and her band of Otherworldly allies take on a Necromancer in another crazy adventure. The romance that was started in the last book leaves Mack heartbroken for a lot of this book, but she discovers some remarkable abilities of her own that she uses to save the day and win back her man. They even get a happy ever after :)

Southeastdweller I loved notes on a scandal.

Can't remember if I have posted this already so sorry if I have!

  1. Midwife's confessions, enjoyed it, a 7
  2. Is Kill Your Friends. Really enjoying it so far, talk about a genre change!!

  1. Restoration by Rose Tremain. This was an audiobook borrowed from the library. Probably a 3.5/5 - parts of it were really enjoyable, and others not so. Didn't like the bit about the 17thC Caesarean operation Merivel was obliged to perform on the dying mother of his child. Made me feel very glad not to have lived and died in those days.

Liked it enough to want to read the sequel, Merivel.

  1. A Scattering by Christopher Reid. A slim volume of poetry, written during and after his late wife's final illness. So very moving and upsetting. Made me cry several times. 5/5.
Foosyerdoos · 05/04/2014 13:58
  1. Michael Tolliver Lives - Armistead Maupin
  2. Mary Ann in Autumn - Armistead Maupin

I must broaden my horizons. My books all seem so obvious!

Southeastdweller · 05/04/2014 18:09

  1. Lord of the Flies - William Golding It's good, but not as good as my first reading back when I was a teenager (before it was ruined by having to study it for GCSE). I don't think I'll be rushing to re-read it again.
MegBusset · 05/04/2014 23:16
  1. Song of Susannah - Stephen King

Book 6 of the Dark Tower series. I really enjoyed this - better and pacier than the previous two in the series. Think I will go straight on to the series finale.

DuchessofMalfi · 06/04/2014 09:47
  1. The Examined Life: How We Lose and Find Ourselves by Stephen Grosz.

An interesting, but all too brief, account of various psychoanalysis cases. I liked it very much but found it a little frustrating that I wanted more depth and detail.

PerksOfBeingNorthern · 06/04/2014 11:43

The Stuart Clark trilogy looks good. Thanks Cote

mum2jakie · 06/04/2014 14:13
  1. Just one damned thing after another - Jodi Taylor
Kindle freebie. Really enjoyed it. Different and engaging tale about a set of time travelling historians.

  2. Kiss Me First
Not bad. Story about a vulnerable young girl effectively groomed over the internet to impersonate another person. Enjoyed it although I was expecting a few more twists and turns.

QueenAnneofAustria · 06/04/2014 14:34

Hello all... AnneWentworth with another name change.

  1. Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen
  2. The COming Race, Edward Bulwer-Lytton
  3. The foundation pit, Andrey Platanov
  4. What Matters in Jane Austen, John Mullan
  5. Agnes Grey, Anne Bronte
  6. The SHock of the Fall, Nathan Filer
  7. The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas

I adored The Three Musketeers. Absolutely rip-roaring and fantastic. On cold winters nights i can imagine curling up with a hot drink, some cake and this book. The only downside is how big it is, but as I think is evident, I adored it.

whitewineandchocolate · 06/04/2014 17:59
  1. Little Coffee Shop of Kabul, I enjoyed this book. Quite lightweight but very thought provoking and sad regarding treatment of women in Afganistan.
