It's about an Edwardian woman trying to find herself. Quite a lot of shagging and morbidness and hanging round in cemeteries.

Also Master Georgie by Beryl Bainbridge (I enjoyed According to Queeney more though).

Oh, and the Lady and the Unicorn, also by Tracey Chevalier - not so much shagging in that one, sorry.

CarolinaMoose · 26/07/2006 08:25

wow, I am really on a roll here

That's a major advantage of co-sleeping - plenty of reading time .

Carmenere · 26/07/2006 08:25

I'd second the Tracey Chevallier reccomendations, I've really enjoyed all of her books I've read.

Alexander Masters, Stuart A Life Backwards

The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber + Sarah Waters Fingersmith - both way better than Jonathan Strange in my op...

Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel - DH and I both loved this recently

MissChief · 26/07/2006 12:36

tracey chevalier wonderful, yes.
also In search of perfection (can't remember who by)

libby purves - any novels v readable.

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 12:39

twocatsonthebed - sorry if this is crashing the thread, maybe we should start another as I dont want to give anything away to pruni, but what did you make of the ending of the crimson petal and the white?

Pruni a few of the books I was going to reccomend have already been mentioned so I will try think of others for you! There are lots of good non-fiction books I can think of if you are interested in that.

twocatsonthebed · 26/07/2006 12:44

eenywifemum - I won't say anything too specific, but yes, I did feel decidedly cheated (but Pruni, this isn't a reason at all not to read the book, as it is 99.9% addictive). I think perhaps his characters became too real for him...

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 12:46

pruni I second what twocatsonthebed said - it is a VERY good book and I am happy I read it, the ending was just a little... quick? a little off but I honestly feel better for having read it.

Thanks twocatsonthebed for getting what I was talking about

motherinferior · 26/07/2006 13:00

I disagree about the Faber book. I thought it was deeply disappointing: I liked the beginning and then it crashed spectacularly.

Pruni, read absolutely everything by Sarah Waters. Do you like Helen Duncombe (I think she's fab)? Maggie Gee's latest (My Cleaner) also worth a whirl.
