Hoping for some recommendations please MNetters. Have read Peter James Roy Grace series, Lynda La Plante Travers series and Rankin's Rebus series. Loved them all.

What should I try next?? So much to choose from and need a good book for Christmas holidays when my lovely MIL will be hosting us which will involve lots of 'I'd like to take DD out, you put your feet up

I just discovered the Bernie Gunther books.
Philip Kerr is the author.
Stocked up on the lot to see me over the holidays.

I've really enjoyed reading Ann Cleeves this year - her Shetland series & Vera Stanhope.

Also for a bit more cosy & wintery- Louise Penny - think the first one is Still Life - all set in a Canadian village.

Sara Paretsky - V I Warshawski books. Very very good. I've got a couple to read from the library, waiting for me to finish work today. Smile

And I've also got a couple of Lindsey Davis books - the Falco books set in Roman times. They are very very good too. Less intense than the Paretsky books though. Read Saturnalia - pretty festive. Grin

Absolutely love Lin Anderson I think Driftnet is the first in the Rhona McLeod series.

Anything by Michael Connelly but particularly the Harry Bosch books.

For British crime fiction try Mark Billingham

For fantasy crime fiction (my new favourite genre!) try the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch

Elizabeth George excellent police procedural and character development. I am pedantic about reading series in order do I would start with a Great Deliverance

I love Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series set on the Welsh Marches though I don't know if they are a mainstream choice.

I agree with Sue Grafton and Sara Paretsky, brilliant.

I like Jonathan Kellerman and Faye Kellerman

For a lighter read Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear

I also love Dorothy L Sayers and Josephine Tey. Nicola Upson has written a series with Tey as the protagonist and they are fab

To end this essay on my Kindle I have read lots by Dana Stabenow, they are set in Alaska and show a way of life I find fascinating.

Good luck I love finding an author I haven't read before

Stuart Macbride? His books are very hard boiled, but very funny. (Love DS Steele) I liked the Rivers of London too.

Phil Rickman is really good. As well as the Merrily Watkins series he has written a couple based around Dr John Dee, who was known as Elizabeth I's magician, which are pretty decent.

Henning Mankell's Wallander series is good too, if a little bleak at times.
