Any suggestions for some interesting chapter books to read to 4 kids - DD1 8 / DS1 6 / DD2 5 & DD2 5? We are away on holiday for two weeks and would like to reduce the pile of books we drag with us! Older independantly reading but will still want to sit and listen in the evenings so can't be too 'babish'. Have read the Little House of Prairie set / Charlotte's Web / Nania / got stuck on Swallows and Amazons....../ most of Eind Blyton / Milly Molly Mandy / My Little Sister / Sophie.... What else is out there suitable and enjoyable for us to read? Thanks.

Any Roald Dahl -tends to appeal to all ages

Great...keep them coming. Big Roald Dahl fans, forget that the younger ones might like to hear them now!

I took a rudyard kipling book to tenerife for my 5 yo in February. he loved it. Got it from borders and it was about £12 but lasted us for 7 nights away plus one when we got back. He now asks for the 'holiday stories' from time to time.

Do have to explain some of the words but there was a good selection ranging from very simplistic Kiplig through to much harder than ds couold have understood. Worth a look at their classic chapter book section.

have a fab time!

Mrs Pepperpot? Might be a bit young for the 8 year old, but it's quite funny in places. Worzel Gummidge? There are some books called The Quigleys that mine liked at that age, and the Kitty books too.

looks like I am going to have a good browse at book shop / library - amazing how many books I have missed and we all read all the time! Thank you - I like preparing for a holiday!
