My Gran is 86 and enjoys a book or 2, but does have mild problems with short term memory loss. Does anyone have a good book that she would appreciate?

I was thinking of "Life after Life" by Kate Atkinson, but thought it might be a bit much with the returning to the beginning bit.

She likes P D James, Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell and non mystery too.

Any ideas?

What about a book of short stories? There are some by various of the chick lit authors, and I bet there are plenty by more serious authors too.

What about The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window? Will show her that life's not over at 88!!

Seriously though - it's a jolly good read.

I recall two books my MIL enjoyed reading when she was late 80s. She also had slight memory problems. One was Judith Kerr's trilogy (When Hitler stole Pink Rabbit etc) and a non-fiction set in the East End of London. So not novels, but I think she liked them because they were from an era she could remember, and in the case of the London book she'd spent time there as a child and lived not far off for most of her life.

I'm not suggesting these as exact options for you, but it may give ideas of something to suit your grandma.
