Can anyone recommend some psychological thrillers?

The spookier the better. A good horror or crime novel would be welcome also.

I don't like excessive gore, but do love to be scared.I've recently enjoyed Rebecca,The Playdate, and Before I Go To Sleep, and would love to read some other psychological thrillers.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

TIA

Another vote for Adam Nevill. Ritual is very good.
Ive read 'into the darkest corner' by Elizabeth Hayes, and found it a bit crap, like she didnt do enough research on DV before she wrote it.
Graham mastertons new ones - the Katie Maguire series is ok, a bit gory if you like that sort of thing.

Also Last days by Adam Nevill is very good. All about the occult and its consequences etc, but very atmospheric. I'd say I'm hard to scare, but that did have me twitching slightly!

I really liked Last Days Junebugjr, although Ritual is my favourite because of the forest.

But as you say, Last Days is very atmospheric and at one point I had to stop reading it one night and put it in a drawer because it gave me the creeps. It wasn't enough to close the book, it had to go in a drawer as well Blush

I had it on my kindle so no such luck!
I don't think I've found a book so scary since the shining.
I'm going to download Apartment 16 tonight. I liked Ritual, I can just imagine a bunch of men getting themselves in such a mess Grin

Cold Hands by John J Niven was one of my favourites from this year.

I also love Out by Natsauo Kirini.

Sophie Hannah - but not The Carrier which is dreadful drivel
Minette Walters
Tana French - but did not enjoy Faithful Place

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but highly recommend reading Stephen king's "The Shining" shortly followed by his recent sequel to it called "Doctor Sleep".

"The Shining" is truly one of the creepiest scary books I've ever read, and if you haven't read it but have seen the film, the film is utterly DIRE compared to the book.

I've just bought Last Days…

I would heartily second anyone who recommended Barbara Vine. I think A Fatal Inversion and A Dark Adapted Eye are probably her best. Do not go anywhere near her recent stuff but the vintage years of twenty to ten years ago are absolute gold.

Toni Morrison's books are quiet good

The past lies waiting is a good spooky one

In the darkest corner is another good spine tingler, will post when more come to mind! have you read any of the Hannibal Lecter ones the first two are really good
