I found it really annoying. Close to hated it. sorry.

cardy · 11/07/2006 11:50

Is it better than 'May contain Nuts'? I am finding it a bit dull after the first few chapters.

CountessDracula · 11/07/2006 11:52

yy I detested it too

I liked Things can only get better but this was utter drivel IMO

He now ranks alongside Nick Hornby and Tony Parsons in my mental library category of male middle aged whingers

anteater - what did you like about it? I haven't read it.
I read "May contain Nuts" & while parts of it were very funny & incisive, overall I found it patronising, polarised and over simplistic. It annoyed me.

cardy · 11/07/2006 14:10

Bugsy2, I agree. May Contain Nuts is more like a short journalistic piece that you would expect to see in a Sunday supplement.

drivel, annoying, dull, patronising, polarised and over simplistic.. Just love you girls!!

I thought it was great! Really made me laugh out loud and think it's a great pressie for any new dad as a vote of confidence that they won't get it that wrong.
My DH models himself on the dad from The Wonder Years and only likes fiction with a grumpy hero so I've learned to love Nick Hornby in order to share anything with DH. (No I'm not a doormat, he has been forced to watch many a Jane Austen film.)

I read this ages ago, but seem to remember howling with laughter all the way through. Read it just after i'd had dd and recall reading the bits out to dh about the wife in it shouting at her husband about not measuring the formula out correctly - rang so true that it had us in stitches. The male equivalent of India Knight for me (I know lots of people hate her, but I think she is wonderful and another writer that makes me laugh out loud.)

Bugsy, only half way thro but love the male slant on child induced relationship pressures.

ALSO this is a book about secrets, which we all have (mine is being a sodding Anteater in a Mums chat room) so lots of shared situations as well..

Thanks Anteater, sounds like it could be worth a read. I was disappointed in May Contain Nuts, but maybe he wrote it in a hurry!!
