Any suggestions on good books/authors? I find I am stuck in a bit of a rut when it comes to books, I generally read Stephen King/Dean Koontz, Nick Hornby, Tony Parsons, have read a couple of Dan Browns. Tried a few classics, like the Brontes, John Steinbeck. I would like to try something different but whenever I have tried a book 'blind' as it were, they're usually duds. What do you reckon?

Jimjams recomended 'the Red Tent' and I ended up until 2-3 in the morning as I had to finish it.

A great read

Well, two books I've really enjoyed recently have been The Kite Runner and Vernon God Little - very different but totally gripping!

I just finished Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell which was brilliant once you had got into his style of writing. From the 1800s to the future and clones in 200 pages.

If you like Stephen King books you might like Haruki Murakami who is my favourite author. His books first of all seem very straight forward then turn out just plain odd. I'm addicted. My favourite of his is 'Wind Up Bird Chronicle' or 'Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World' but he has written loads.

Read the Kite Runner too and really liked that.

Try any of these:
Paul Auster - The Music of Chance
Peter Ackroyd - Hawksmoor
Alice Hoffman - Turtle Moon (or any by her really)
Jennifer Donnelly - A Gathering Light
Michael Frayn - Spies
Yann Martel - Life of Pi
Some old, some recent, but all a good read

Also loved "the kite runner".
Try 'the time travellers wife' - quite new & very different.

Also...'Jonothan Strange and Mr Norrell' (1000 pages but like a Harry Potter for Grown ups! - I really enjoyed it) (Susanna Clarke)
