who are your favourite female characters?

obviously Elizabeth Bennett will have a big following (good!)

I love Hester from Mortal Engines

and Daisy from the Great Gatsby - she is so selfish but perfectly crafted it is a joy to read about her.

One of my favourites has been mentioned - Idgie from Fired Green Tomatoes.

And Emily Starr, from the Emily of New Moon series. I love her so much I have an Emily of my own, and a copy of the books to give her when she is old enough!

Ooooo great thread

Agree with Granny Weatherwax, she's the best.

If anyone has read any of the Dorothy Dunnett books the they will know Phillipa Somerville. She is a wonderful character who grows over the books. And Merrily Watkins is a fabulous character, new book out soon.

Favourite classic character has to be Becky Sharp.
