Ds has quite a large number of books, we both love me reading him stories and him telling me about the pictures. I really want to expand the collection so what do you think is truly a must have? Am happy to have a few suggestions for older 'stories' too that he can grow into (although not oxford reading tree style lol)

His favourite story (plus dvd, toy, etc etc...) is Chicken little but he hates all other grolier books lol. He loves Thomas The tank engine but haven't got him any of those books yet. He has a few Dora books he loves, plus he loves ones like 'guess how much I love you' and funnily enough the board book baby bible he was given at his christening. He's good with paper books, although flaps are a bit of temptation!

dd really like Hug by Jez someone or other, The large family books and Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. She also loves Not now Bernard.

Tony Ross I think it is does some good books too. Im coming to get you I think was one of his but they are for slightly older kids so something to grow into.

Dear Zoo - Rod Campbell
Ten in the Bed - Penny Dale
Fix it Duck - Jez Alborough
Night night Cuddly Bear by Martin Waddell
Monkey Do by Allan Ahlberg
Lucy and Tom at the seaside by Shirley Hughes
At home with Tom and Pippo by Helen Oxenbury
Goodnight Moon (can't remember the author, but it's American)
My ds3 also likes Old Bear but the stories are longish for a 2yo. We like the video, very sweetly narrated by Anton Rodgers.
Corduroy by Dan Freeman

The Julia Donaldson/Axel Sheffler books.
Dig Dig Digging/Emergency/Choo Choo Clickety Clack all by Margaret Mayo(I have to read these endlessly to ds,in fact they could be my "specialist subject" on mastermind!!!)
Funnybones
Dogger and Alfie books (Shirley Hughes)
Hairy Maclary books (Lynley Dodds)
Most things by Eric Carle (Hungry Caterpillar/Busy Spider/Lonely Firefly)
Kipper books (Mick Inkpen)

If you have a DS who is like mine absolutely anything with cars, trucks, diggers, trains or planes will go down well.Think I will have a ceremonial book burning when he grows out of "Thomas the Tank Engine" !! HTH
