This has been a real eye opener, I would never of picked this book, never in a million years but I actually enjoyed it in the end, it took me a wile to get in to it and the old style language was a bit difficult for me at the start. It was just so random, dp kept laughing at me for spitting out my tea when reading this, so shocked at some of the things said. The story had no real point (not to me anyway, unless I missed it) but it was a nice change from the books I normally read. I have never read any thing like this before and although I wouldn’t choose to read it again it was defiantly worth the time, still not sure what to make of Noah though.

I love Barbara Trapido - don't remember Noah's Ark that well though and don't seem to have it. If it's your first Trapido, you should definately backtrack - Temples of Delight is wonderful, guarenteed to make you laugh and cry at the same time. (Those are the best books I think)

i might just try that, thanks motherbeing

Finishhed the book while on holiday and I quite enjoyed it. I used the word "quite" only because like Bresha I didnt know what to think of Noah. I liked that he saved Ali and was so sensible but he was so control freaky and rigid that he annoyed the tits off me. I loved Ali and her daughter, in fact all the children were cool.

I thought her infidelity was too easily forgiven. It sort of hinted that Noahs first wife had been a bad girl and he was bitter, so how then could her forgive Ali so readily - bacuse he was horny??? Just because he didnt ejaculate doesnt mean she didnt cheat on him IMO. I found that a bit inconsistent and unbelievable.

But..still enjoyed it

What I liked about this book was that it was a snapshot into someone else's life. You entered the story almost via the back door of all that was happening and when you left (the book ended) you just knew that their lives would carry on the way that you left them.

Really really enjoyed. Not a difficult read, a pleasant one. Fab book PP

I really enjoyed reading this and found myself getting really involved with the characters and wanting to find out more about all of them. I quite identified with Ali and her scattiness (although I think I'm okay without a Noah!) Having said that I agree that the adultery was wrong no matter how she tried to play it down.
As others have said, I really wanted to know more about Noah as I just didn't get him and, therefore, didn't like him much. I also found it difficult to like Jule (the friend in SA) but was interested to hear about her life in 1980's South Africa. Thought Arnie and Camilla were great and was happy..., um, I'll stop there in case people read this before the book!

yeah I only "quite" enjoyed this one too - it seemed very much 'of its time' ie 1980s with its slant on relationships and women's role etc

Liked main character but didnt like Noah, and also found that just reading a bland passage suddenly there were very rude words and graphic sex scenes - most odd!

wouldnt recommend it as a great read, but fair to middling
