Morning all,

As the old thread here is nearly full, I have created a shiny new one for your delight and delectation.

Sign in and update your progress here!

I'm Cardiff and I've nearly finished book 16, so I'm very behind as to be in track we should be approaching 25 by now. Where is everyone else up to?

Enigma was a cracking read, but I enjoyed The Best Of Our Spies more. Neither of them are great literature, but certainly they are fascinating and absorbing fictionalised history.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 24/12/2013 02:32

96a. Romps, Tots and Boffins- I'm counting this as a half because it was just a light comedy read.

96b. The Dreaming Suburb, by RF Delderfield. A long one which makes up for the previous.

  1. Masters Of Sex- the biography of Masters and Johnson.

  2. Back Story, by David Mitchell. Fabulous autobiography.

  1. The Last Dance: And Other Stories by Victoria Hislop

  1. If nobody speaks of remarkable things - Jon Mcgregor
SantasComingEarlyHisSackIsFull · 24/12/2013 14:03

Was "Masters of Sex" a good read BOF?

  1. The gunslinger - Stephen King

The first of King's Dark Tower series. Not amazing but an intriguing introduction and am interested to see where the story goes in the next book.

  1. (Yay!!) Ship of Brides by Jojo Moyes, set on a ship carrying Australian war brides to start a new life with the English servicemen they married during the war. Pretty good.
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2013 16:10

I don't count, but at least 150 I should think.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2013 16:10

Meg - book 2 is my favourite. Hope you enjoy it.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 24/12/2013 17:11

Yes, good read. Not as much as the tv show, mind Xmas Smile.

  1. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren

I'm not cheating no I'm not Blush

DuchessofMalfi · 27/12/2013 08:58

Naked by David Sedaris. Didn't find it anywhere near as funny as he is on the radio. A bit disappointing really.

DuchessofMalfi · 27/12/2013 08:59

Forgot to add, that was Book no. 102 :)

bibliomania · 27/12/2013 14:28
  1. Love Nina, Nina Stibbe.
  2. Slow Train to Switzerland, Diccon Bewes.
  3. Mary Poppins She Wrote, Valerie Lawson (makes a good companion piece to watching the film Saving Mr Banks) 48)The Vampyre Family, Andrew McConnell Stott (non-fic about the Shelleys, the Godwins and Byron. Excellent).

Might fit in another two and make it to 150, but not that pushed either way. Not sure if I should make it a NY resolution to read less in 2014 and engage a bit more with the outside world.

  1. Suckers portfolio - Kurt Vonnegut

A collection of previously unpublished short stories - some average, a couple really good - one slightly random essay, and an intriguing start to a science fiction story which finishes in mid sentence.

  1. "The Story of Beautiful Girl" by Rachel Simon. Ending was a bit predictable, but thoroughly enjoyed the story.
MrsCosmopilite · 28/12/2013 11:27
  1. The Valley of Amazement - Amy Tan. I've not read any of her books for a long time, and really enjoyed this. Obviously some of the events were somewhat contrived (i.e. highly unlikely in the real world) but this does not detract from impeccable story-telling.
EssentialCoffee · 28/12/2013 13:43

I'm marking my place to join in with a 2014 thread...I'm hoping there will be a 2014 thread won't there? Xmas Smile

juneybean · 28/12/2013 14:23
  1. Highly Inappropriate Tales for Young People by Douglas Coupland
  2. The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements
  3. If The Cap Fits: A Pregnancy Tale by Vikki Rimmer
CoteDAzur · 28/12/2013 17:17
  1. The Passage - Justin Cronin

Despite a good chunk in the middle where it gets YAish, this is a well-done apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic book. Details are thought-out in a meticulous and 'realistic' way and the suspense is nicely done. It reminds me of World War Z in some ways. Good to know there are 2 sequels Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2013 17:20

When does part 3 come out, Cote? Part 2 is a half decent read too, a;though one is better.

How was the Coupland, Juney? Worth a read?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2013 17:20

although

WednesdayNext · 28/12/2013 18:04
