Morning all,

As the old thread here is nearly full, I have created a shiny new one for your delight and delectation.

Sign in and update your progress here!

I'm Cardiff and I've nearly finished book 16, so I'm very behind as to be in track we should be approaching 25 by now. Where is everyone else up to?

OP posts:

  2. Oath bound - Rachel Vincent

  1. Stig of the dump - bedtime story for DS1-2. Lovely book if you ever have the inclination for childrens fiction.

Starting Around the World in 80 Days and currently reading Mrs Dalloway.

Goodreads says I am one book behind still.

CoteDAzur · 07/09/2013 13:48

I'm still in the month of Anna Karenina. It may have been more than a month. Feels like a year. I'm at 60%

  1. The Cuckoo's Calling - JR Galbraith (JK Rowling) very good, but not as good as The Casual Vacancy
WednesdayNext · 08/09/2013 19:03

44 is Andrew Marr "The Diamond Queen". Very interesting!

greenhill · 08/09/2013 19:43
  1. Long Time Coming - Edie Claire.

I incorrectly numbered my last two, so the above romantic, light read was my actual number 49.

tumbletumble · 09/09/2013 11:51
  1. Names for the Sea: Strangers in Iceland by Sarah Moss. This is the second book I've read by Sarah Moss (after Night Waking last year) and she's becoming one of my favourite authors. There's something about her style which really appeals to me.
tumbletumble · 09/09/2013 11:52

Cote Grin

DuchessofMalfi · 10/09/2013 06:41

78 - What The Chinese Don't Eat by Xinran.

MrsMaryCooper · 11/09/2013 18:15
  1. Moon over Soho - Ben Aaronovitch It's the second in the PC Peter Grant series. I enjoyed it more than No 1 Rivers of London
minsmum · 13/09/2013 23:57
  1. The Girl who played with fire - Stieg Larsson. Loved it and will be heading straight into The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest.
WednesdayNext · 14/09/2013 01:10

Finished The Diamond Queen. I found it really interesting.

Book 45 is Nina Holmqvist "The Unit" which is already gripping and disturbing in equal measure!!

DuchessofMalfi · 14/09/2013 12:28

79 - The Child's Child by Barbara Vine. Audio book. Not bad. Interesting concept of a book within a book.

tumbletumble · 14/09/2013 13:32
  1. The Shack by William P Young. This is a Christian book. An interesting read but not really my cup of tea.
oinktopus · 14/09/2013 16:24

I had to go and check with Amazon. I'm up to 341 (which is Virginia Woolf's Orlando), although I have a natural advantage in that I'm both a quick reader and a chronic insomniac. I can get through two books a night sometimes or up to five in an insomniac weekend.

tumbletumble · 14/09/2013 17:35

You've read 341 books this year?? Wow I am seriously impressed!

oinktopus · 14/09/2013 17:38

tumbletumble It is really bad insomnia. I average about three hours a night, so have an extra five hours a day over everyone else. I'd go mad if I didn't have books to make me forget it's 4am yet again. Smile

DuchessofMalfi · 14/09/2013 17:57

Wow Oinktopus. Completely in awe :o

Have you got a list of your books so far, in one place? I keep track of mine on Goodreads. I can recommend it. Would love to see what you've read so far.

oinktopus · 14/09/2013 18:04

DuchessofMalfi All I've really got is what Amazon says. I'm not a member of a library since I moved so that figure is probably pretty much right (apart from the odd thing I've reread).

I really would like to start keeping track because at least half the books I've read this year, I couldn't tell you much about. Lots of times people recommend a book to me and it's only when they start talking about the plot that I realise I've read it.

I'll take a look at Goodreads! Thanks for the recommendation. Smile

MrsMaryCooper · 14/09/2013 19:23
  1. How to be a Woman - Caitlin Moran. Funny but not as funny as some of the reviews seem to think it is.
oinktopus · 14/09/2013 20:07

Eek! I've made a rather silly mistake. The figure I quoted isn't for this year but since I got my Kindle. This year is 119.

[tumbletumble] Just noticed you mentioned the Apsley Cherry-Garrard book. He's quoted in Alfred Lansing's book, Endurance, about the later Shackleton expedition. If you've not read it, and especially if you don't know the story, I'd highly recommend it. I've probably read it five or six times and I still shake my head with disbelief.

SummerHoliDidi · 14/09/2013 21:23
  1. Wither - Lauren DeStefano
  2. Fever - Lauren DeStefano

Those were both YA books about a future world where all girls die at 20 and boys die at 25. We follow a 16 yo girl as she's kidnapped and attempts to get back to her brother.

  1. Watch Over Me - Daniela Sacerdoti
DuchessofMalfi · 15/09/2013 21:52

Book 80 - Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.

WednesdayNext · 15/09/2013 22:04

Finished 45: Nina Holmqvist "The Unit". Just wow. I dint know what to say. It was one of the most heart-wrenching novels I've ever read.
