What next after The Grapes of Wrath?

I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath for the first time and really loving it.

Apart from Of Mice and Men, I haven't read any other Steinbeck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks Smile

East of Eden is amazing. I read it every few years. It has so many great characters in an epic, gripping novel. I am so jealous of you reading him for the first time. Cannery Row and the sequel Sweet Thursday are lovely too.

Cannery row. I wish my name was Fauna.

East of Eden. He regarded it as his best work. I could never understand why we didn't didn't read it at school - until I read it Grin

Cannery Row is good - a mellow tale to settle into. Red Pony is good. I really like The Moon is Down - quite different in terms of setting.

I never got to grips with Tortilla Flat.

I think I was 15 when I read East of Eden first and it was probably the most educational book I ever read. Smile

Thank you everyone. I bought a secondhand copy of Cannery Row today, will look out for East of Eden.

Look out for To A God Unknown. I only discovered it recently and would recommend.

Oh, thank you, I'll look out for it. I read Cannery Row immediately after The Grapes of Wrath, enjoyed it a lot (and the two books are very different!) and have now started Sweet Thursday.

I seem to be on a Steinway trend at the moment Smile
