Sad news. Very talented writer

ArtemisCake · 09/06/2013 16:52

Oh that's so sad. He will be very sadly missed.

MrsMcEnroe · 09/06/2013 16:52

Sad RIP Iain Banks, you were a bloody great writer and I loved every single one of your books. Especially The Crow Road and The Wasp Factory.

The loss, the loss. From a purely self centred perspective, all those unwritten books. And sending my condolences to anybody who knew him (should they see this).

So sad. I have enjoyed reading his books so much. At least he not in pain anymore.

DontCallMeBaby · 09/06/2013 19:24

Between us DH and I have all his novels - he has the scifi and I have the rest. When we first met we had a copy of Feersum Endjinn each as I'd decided to branch out and get more Banks into my life. We just have one now, as I gave the other to our local Big Issue seller, as he likes to read (I think I must've given it to him before DD was born, and he still mentions it).

I've met him a couple of times, just book signings and stuff, and got such a kick out of the fact that this lovely, twinkly, sweet man thought of The Wasp Factory.

DH said "No more Culture" and it's making me want to cry

basildonbond · 09/06/2013 22:05

It's so sad - and a world without any more Culture books is a poorer place Sad

HumphreyCobbler · 09/06/2013 22:13

This is so sad.

I will always love Whit the most, such a proactive, funny and inspiring heroine

weblette · 09/06/2013 22:19

:( Whit and The Crow Road are books I could read again and again.

highlandcoo · 09/06/2013 22:37

Sad news. I always hoped to have the opportunity to meet him one day - a great writer and by all accounts a lovely man too Sad

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 10/06/2013 09:52

very very sad indeed, a real talent.

lurkingfromhome · 10/06/2013 15:54

Such sad news. A wonderful writer and by all accounts a fine man too. Lots of writers and others on Twitter yesterday sounded genuinely upset. He seemed to be well loved as well as greatly admired. A fine legacy to leave although how sad that we have been deprived of what might have been another couple of decades of writing.

mammamic · 10/06/2013 17:55

The Bridge - one of my all time fave books. He is in my top 5 authors. Adore him. was sad to read he had terminal cancer a few months back but never thought he'd leave so quickly.

Anyone with that talent and imagination must have had a full life - I'm now going to read all his books again

Teladi · 10/06/2013 21:20

I am another Isis Whit fan. So terribly sad.
