I'm just over half way through reading this - I've got Langdon as far as Venice - is anyone else reading it and are you enjoying it?

I read in it one sitting - what a great day.

I really enjoyed it, much better than the Lost Symbol and possibly on a par with Angels and Demons for me.

There's a brilliant twist at the end which I hadn't even considered as an option.

I bought it at the supermarket for half term reading but can't get interested

marissab · 31/05/2013 08:06

Ooo you may have tempted me. Was kinda waiting for cheapo soft back though. I loved da vinci code and all of them really. I liked the codes and puzzle and stuff for the reader to solve. Is the new one like that?

mrz · 31/05/2013 09:01

Hard Back was £6.00 from ASDA home last week

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/05/2013 10:53

Not as much in the way of stuff for the reader to solve, but it is a great book, and the twist is, as diabolo says, brilliant. I stayed up until nearly 1am to finish reading it last night. I think I am going to go back and read The Lost Symbol next.

Interestingly, in the Times puzzles bit today, the Polygon big word and one of the questions in the little quiz, both related to Dan Brown and the Robert Langdon books!

I'm at about 65% and it is so far what I can only describe as badly written tosh.

I enjoyed Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, by the way.

Deliberately not reading the thread not to see the spoilers.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 31/05/2013 20:37

I'm loving it! I thought The Lost Symbol was the badly written tosh - I put it down one day quite soon after starting it and could never pick it up again. Can anyone tell me if I really should try again when I'm done with this one?
Will there be spoilers on this thread because I want to avoid that if at all possible.

CoteDAzur · 31/05/2013 20:51

Lost Symbol was badly written tosh, as well, imho.

This one is particularly bad, though. Art historian in the role of Batman, fighting mad villain to save the world Hmm A villain who has for some reason left clues for his enemies to follow and thwart his plans Hmm All with the beautiful genius who happened to be his doctor and who immediately falls for him. Ffs.

diabolo · 01/06/2013 14:38

Cote - I'd keep reading if I were you - your assessment above is rather inaccurate as you 'll see when you get to the end.

Although I agree it is rather fanciful and far-fetched, but that's what I want. If I wanted fact, I'd buy it, not fiction.

marissab · 01/06/2013 19:27

Yes i think dan brown writes cheesy, fun, pure fiction but it is fun none the less. Just perfect for a non too brain aching holiday read.

CoteDAzur · 02/06/2013 19:47

Well, I've finished it and have to say it didn't get any better. The twist was forced and the whole plot was totally unrealistic.

It feels like Dan Brown ran out of interesting stories of art history in his first two books.

By the way, I knew where "Ground Zero" was from the very beginning, when they saw the video of the guy in an underground "lagoon" with columns and find it laughable that such a knowledgeable historian of art & architecture wouldn't know about that place.
