Do you read series? Do you ever get bored of them?

I like reading thrillers and crime novels, and once I like the author and style I tend to read them all in a frenzy!

I love Lee Child's Reacher books (do NOT ask me about the film!)
I also love Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak series. I felt so sad when I finished the last (so far) in the series.

I liked Camilla Lackberg books but they were very formulaic and I've stopped reading them now.

What series do you like, and can you recommend any that aren't thrillers?! I'm thinking of starting my Kate Shugak's again soon Grin

All the series I read tend to be Scottish crime writers. Got hooked on Rebus, love the Rhona McLeod series by Linn Anderson and the Cal Innes books by Ray Banks.

Oh yes, love Terry Pratchett - how could I forget? Have only just stopped reading them, did a mammoth reading and read about 10 in a row.

I enjoyed Stephanie Plum, but I tried reading again and I don't know, it seems to have lost something. A lot of things I like to re-read, but generally I don't when it's crime or thrillers. I'd say Plum was more humour/detective but it just didn't seem as funny. Never mind.

I know I've read at least one Rebus and at least one Rhona McLeod book, but I just can't get into British crime books. I really don't know why, I didn't not enjoy either, but neither inspired me to read more.

As others have said Alexander McCall smith ladies detective agency series are really good.

The Sue Grafton, Kinsey Millhone 'alphabet' books are very good too, though a bit thriller like. Which you said you aren't after. But are well worth a read IMHO.

Ooh mumslife I'm half way through the first book of the Cazalet chronicles and am really enjoying it.

Yes and yes. Although my particular bent is fantasy (which can be terrible for endless series, I now actively avoid authors who are past book three unless they are very well reviewed)

Loved Rebus, Shardlake, and Peter May Lewis trilogy.

Am intrigued by the Denise mina trilogy as have read and enjoyed a few of hers.

Have you read the "...In Death" books with Lt Eve Dallas?

I read the first four in a frenzy then stopped but there's loads.

Rizzoli and Isles series?

I agree re Patricia Cornwell, read a couple but gave up.

JackieTheFart · 08/06/2013 00:19

Kasterborous - have got and read all the Sue Graftons! Enjoyed most of them, some better than others. The latest one was fab.

Doctrine haven't read any of those, but now I know where someone's username came from! Will search for some now I think.

Are Rizzoli and Isles the Dennis Lehane books? I think I've read a couple.

nooka - have you read any Riftwar Cycle series? I haven't, but there was a bit in my magazine about them. Recommended if you like Game of Thrones apparently.

I'm sad as I've finished the last Reacher book and it was really disappointing. Now trying Rivers of London which I like - it reminds me of the Jim Butcher books which I also quite liked although I don't think I'd read them again.

Just checked, no I haven't read any Rizzoli and Isles but will check them out as I like Tess Gerritsen. It was Kenzie and Gennaro the Dennis Lehane duo. Quite like them although haven't read them as a series, more just picked them up as and when.

I love the early tess gerritsen rizzoli and isles stuff, although the writing is pretty shocking.

I love the Karin slaughter books Grin I know the violence is quite shocking but I love Lena and the romance between Jeffrey and Sara. I also think she writes quite well.

I've got all the Karen rose books too Blush they're pure shite but I can't help but get sucked in every time. They're an easy read I guess.

Have you tried Harlan coben? The myron bolitar series is quite entertaining.

If you're into young adult stuff please try the Tomorrow series by John Marsden. It's the best set of books I have ever read and I revisit them every year.

pollywollydoodle · 08/06/2013 01:19

another one for Rizzoli and Isles though i haven't enjoyed the more recent ones as much as the earlier ones

i'm currently working my way through the Tom Thorne books by Mark Billingham and really enjoying them
