Loved it but now need another recommendation. Have a couple of days coming up on my own - books I have loved recently include the book thief, anything by Kate Atkinson / Margaret Atwood. Just finished re reading oryx and crake and year of the flood in preparation for the new one in sept. Any recommendations?

Have you read any Monica lewinsky?
I find her a very clever and engaging writer as is Kate Atkinson. She's written several books: We are all made of glue; two caravans; a short history of tractors in ukrarian

As in THE Monica (Clinton one?!)

Lol nooo.. Monica lewicka - blasted predictive text.
The one I like best is her latest- cant for the life of me remember the title but one character is a city trader, there's a sister who is a teacher, and another sibling with Down's syndrome. Really well written, and like Kate Atkinson, she structures her writing brilliantly with lots of layers and various family members stories interweaving

'Various pets alive and dead' is the title, just come back to me.

I too have just finished LifeafterLife...am now on The Newlyweds by Nell Freudenberger, about an Indian girl who comes to America to marry a US man she's met on the internet. really enjoying it so far.

Stephen Fry's 'Making History' is a different take on the 'what if the war had happened differently' theme. It's competently written, and has quite a touching love story at its centre.

I read it ages ago; it must be 10 to 15 years old now, but I enjoyed it a lot (and have also recently enjoyed Life after Life).
