Got a bit bored with how formulaic the books have become...

Try Sophie Mckenzie. I just read a really, really good book by her called Close My Eyes.

Could not put it down and picked it up in Asda for £3.75.

Get on it!

Oh no! Only recently discovered Sophie Hannah and really loved the ones I've read so far! Thank you for the tip though!

MrFranklyShankly · 28/05/2013 10:09

Thanks for the tip bottleofbeer I've read a good few of SH too and enjoyed them initially but got a bit bored with the same old story being rehashed although I did enjoy her first few books thisone hope that doesn't put you of. I see she has a new book out now seems like a ghost story type (being compared to the woman in black) wonder if that's any good??

CaptainCalamari · 28/05/2013 10:14

Fab, thanks for the tip! Smile

It's very much in the vein of how the fek did this happen? is it even possible; like SH - but better!

I love SH stories I just find the whole police angle and sub plot a bit tedious now.

SH got a bit too unbelievable for me.

The book that went this is the end...no, actually...this is the end....hahahaha, fooled you, this is the end. Like she had three different endings in mind, couldn't choose between them and so threw them all in.

That said, I keep reading them hoping that the next one is better. I quite enjoyed Kind of Cruel, but still thought it was a bit too far fetched when all was revealed.

Will look out for Sophie McKenzie though.

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 28/05/2013 19:55

SH actually irritated me because there was never the wow! didn't see that coming ending.

Thanks for tip for the other one!

Just googled. I think I've read Girl, Missing by this author and my friend actually recommended Close My Eyes a couple of weeks ago. Smile

It does sound good but books about baby loss are a bit of tough subject for me so I'd decided to leave it for now.

bottleofbeer · 28/05/2013 22:18

Yes, I should have said that it's centred around a stillbirth - sorry x

OP posts:
SarahAndFuck · 28/05/2013 22:34

No it's okay. It's surprising how many books are when you get reading them. And some I am completely fine with, it's just the baby's name in this one, more than the stillbirth issue. I'm sure I will read it eventually anyway, but sometimes I need to build myself up a bit.

I read the Sophie Hannah one about baby loss (Room Swept White?) without any problems at all. It was a different sort of loss, and again it was all a bit unbelievable by the end so it didn't have the same effect as some more realistic books on the subject.

Close My Eyes is on Kindle for £2.80 at moment.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 03/06/2013 00:01

Thanks

thisonehasalittlecar · 13/06/2013 12:14

Really enjoyed it, great recommendation! Just wish I hadn't stayed up until 2 am finishing it (yawn)!

Clawdy · 13/06/2013 18:20

Just finished Close My Eyes. I was enjoying it but as soon as it got into car chases and guns, coupled with a sickly-sweet romance, I started to switch off. In the end,the whole story-line was just too unbelievable for words.
