Decent vampire/fantasy series

I enjoyed the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse series, but since reading spoilers about the last one I have put them to one side in protest as the ending is not what I had hoped for!!! What else can I read? Nothing that involves too much thought or angst..these are my guilty, no brain pleasure reads, any suggestions?

I like the Laurell K Hamilton vampire etc. books, here Anita Blake series. I don't like the Merry Gentry series, that's terrible IMO - but Anita Blake is ok. She's a vampire hunter :)

Another vote for the Anita Blake books, but don't bother with anything after Narcissus In Chains as they jump the shark completely (author underwent a bit of a change in her personal circumstances and the books got very, very dull.) You might also like Charlaine Harris' other series about the woman who can find dead bodies - Grave Secret, Grave Surprise etc. There's four of them and they are pretty good.
Also Kelley Armstrong's Women Of The Otherworld books are not bad - they are not specifically about vampires, but women with various supernatural powers and traits eg witches and werewolves.

Kelley Armstrong's books was the other series I was going to recommend - I haven't read more than the first 4 though.

There's a Russian series that is written by Sergei Lukyanenko that is really good although I haven't read the last one yet as it has only just come out in English. They're called:

Kim Harrison the hollows book series is good,it's about vamps,witches and werewolves

All the Ann Rice vampire series in which "interview with a vampire" is set.
And also her Mayfair witches seties.
They ate all partly set in the west indies plantations and the glamorous decaying athmosphere of New Orleans.

I just want to second the Anne rice recommendations. Interview with a vampire, and the sequels, are fantastic. I read them about ten years ago and am still dying to visit New Orleans.

The Passage and its follow up, the name of which has currently escaped me.

Connie Suttle does some really good vampire ones.

Light vampire novels?

The Tanya Huff ones. Main protagonist is a private detective who has a vampire helper. Easy reads, noting taxing there.

Jeaniene Frost - Night Huntress Novels. I enjoyed them anyway

JR Ward - Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Once you get past the names, they're good and very raunchy!

Dare I say it - but the Twilight series? I know its meant to be a big favourite of teens, but apparently the 2nd largest readership group is women aged 38-42 (a-hem!)

Elizabeth hunter - the elemental mysteries series.

Really great books, vampires who are attached to one of the four elements which give them specific powers. If you read the blurb for the first one it goes on about a library! It's a book where the blurb doesn't do it justice and its full of sexual tension as well as being quite funny.

Then there's her elemental World Series, I haven't read those yet!

How about the Gane of Thrones books? fantasy, not vampire.

Freda Warrington's Blood Wine series:

The Dark Blood of Poppies

Or try The Hunger games trilogy. Really great page turner but not at all heavy going.

Is Guillermo del toro's the strain any good?

So many good suggestions..so many still to try, but so far I have adored the JR Ward brotherhood series..huge thanks for that. . Looking forward to a summer of reading!

Umm Sherilyn Kenyon's dark hunter series... Not vampires strictly... But similar.

Oh where to start? I love, love, love vampire/fantasy books. I have to second the J.R. Ward books both of her series are fantastic. The 'Dark' series by Christine Feehan they can be a little predictable after you've read a few but I really enjoyed them. The 'House of night' series by P.C. Cast and the 'The Morganville vampires' by Rachel Caine both teen series but are good if you just want something to read easily. 'Chicagoland vampires' series by Chloe Neill. Rachel Vincent has some great urban fantasy series. I particularly recommend her 'Shifters' series. Great female protagonist I almost cried when I realised there aren't going to be anymore books in that series. I know I've read more but I can't think of them right now. Hope these help :D
