Is it worth reading? A classic?

Yes! I read it last week, it is a fantastic book.

blueshoes · 19/02/2013 09:29

Yes, definitely. One of my all time faves.

missalien · 19/02/2013 09:33

I love it I can read it over and over its my all time favourite

LIZS · 19/02/2013 09:33

ooh yes , then watch the Laurence Olivier film - chilling

DizzyPurple · 19/02/2013 09:36

Brilliant book. I bought it originally as dd1 is called Rebecca. Didn't read it for ages then thought I would and loved it!

ilovecolinfirth · 19/02/2013 09:57

I never re-read books....think I'm going to read this one again though. I loved it!

pengymum · 19/02/2013 10:03

Top of my all time favourite list! Love it and love DuMaurier's writing.

MrsJohnDeere · 19/02/2013 10:16

One of my favourite books. Read it countless times. Often return to it as a comfort read when I'm feeling unwell or out of sorts.

Keenoonvino · 19/02/2013 11:20

Ok you've all convinced me! It's next to read after I finish "how to be a woman" which I also chose based on these pages!

Du Maurier was a brilliant writer & story-teller. I'd also recommend Jamaica Inn - really good, and My Cousin Rachel.

mimbleandlittlemy · 19/02/2013 13:32

Oooh, yes, definitely worth reading. Haven't read it for ages but it used to be my go-to book when I'd finished exams and didn't have to do any more revision.

PetiteRaleuse · 19/02/2013 13:37

Yes, it's a fabulous book, as is Jamaica Inn. Not read My Cousin Rachel yet.

AmandaPayne · 19/02/2013 13:38

Just loved it. Do read.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 19/02/2013 17:56

Another vote for Rebecca. Easy to read but still a classic. I also like her other novels, although I haven't read them all yet.

boogiewoogie · 19/02/2013 22:41

Absolutely read it. The film is very well done too. Have read Jamaica Inn and My cousin Rachel. If you like suspense then you'll like Du Maurier novels.

BadRoly · 19/02/2013 23:05

I started it a couple of days ago (after finishing what I thought was superb Jamaica Inn). I'm enjoying it so far Smile

zanuda · 21/02/2013 13:23

It's not exactly classic - written 1938. Crime story/suspense (not the classic "who's done it"). If you like this kind of stories - when you start Rebecca you'll read it nonstop. It really carries you away.

Movie - there are a lot of versions. Hitchcock's one (black and white) is absolute classic.

ATJabberwocky · 21/02/2013 13:35

Daphne du Maurier is a fantastic author, and i really recommend that you read Rebecca, you will not regret!

FakePlasticLobsters · 21/02/2013 14:18

Rebecca is one of my all time favourites, and once you have read that one, give The Collector by John Fowles a try. Equally chilling but in a very different way.

snozzlemaid · 21/02/2013 14:58

Frencman's creek is another great one by Du Maurier.

berlingo · 22/02/2013 07:56

It may just be me but I think the proposal scene in Rebecca is wonderful. So beautifully written, it is my all time romantic piece. It makes me cry every time!

Lionsntigersnbears · 22/02/2013 19:39

good god yes!! Utterly superb and totally underrated!

BigPigLittlePig · 24/02/2013 19:10

First read this as a teenager - have it read it several times since then and still enjoy it lots. Agree with other people who have said Jamaica Inn is good too.

AScorpionPitForMimes · 24/02/2013 22:16

Rebecca is great, as are Jamaica Inn, and I am SO glad I am not the only one to think of Frenchman's Creek straight away!
