50 Book Challenge in 2013. Who's with me?

Tidying up after Christmas it has come to my attention that I have nearly 100(!!) paperbacks in stacks down the side of my bed waiting to be read.
I am going to challenge myself to try and read at least 50 of them this year. That's nearly one a week so I am going to have to really apply myself and stop faffing around and doing other things when I could be enjoying a good book.
I wondered if anyone else would like to join me? We can post what we are reading and then post when we have finished each book and what's next.
I know I would love to hear what others are reading and enjoying (or not enjoying) so I can go out and buy more books in a few months time!
My first book of the year is President Down by Terence Strong about spies and terrorists which my dad lent me about a year ago! I'm only about 20 pages in, but so far so good.

I've posted a few threads recently about when we find the time to read, how many books you've read in 2012 etc., so this thread is perfect for me!
I'd originally set myself the target of 2 books a month, so must try harder to reach 50!
I started a book group six months ago with mums from school, and seem to only have read book group books whilst I've got a pile of my own at home which I'd love to get through.
I've just finished 'State of Wonder' by Ann Patchett which I started early December (book group) so am starting from Book 1 today - 'Rose Petal Beach' by Dorothy Koomson (book group again).
I'll let you know how I get on!

Okay, I'm in. When I commuted to work I got through two books a week but now I work from home I get through a book a month! I blame MN, to be very honest, for eating into my free evenings once DD is in bed. So in order to read more, I need to reduce my MN time.

I started Confessions Of A Wallflower on 1st January. So far it's funny, sweet and very endearing.

I'm in too. I read 49 books last year but that included 5 months commuting on the train for 2hrs a day, might be more difficult to do now I drive to work.

Currently reading What on Earth Happened by Christopher Lloyd but I am finding it a bit boring and so am not reading very often. Might have to give up and move on to something else.

My New Years resolution is that I can only buy 1 new book when I have read 10books that I already own as my 'to read' pile is getting out of control

I have decided not to bother struggling on with books I don't enjoy this year. Reading in my leisure time should not be a chore. If I get to page 50 and I'm still not enjoying myself, I resolve to bin it off and move onto the next one.

I remembered that the other one I've read so far this year was Pratchett's 'Dodger' - I was disappointed with it. So, that's five so far since January the first but I'm almost bookless again now. :(

I'd love to join in, if that's ok? My reading got very off track following some MH problems after the birth off my DS. I've not been able to concentrate on reading but not stopped buying books, so have 25 books to read on the shelf in my room, more in the spare room and at least the same again on my kindle.

My first book of the year (started on new year's eve if that counts?) was Hilary Jordan's "When She Woke". Highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it in three sittings as I couldn't put it down!

Just about to start Kate Furnivall's "The Jewel Of St Petersburg". I've read some of her books before, so looking forward to this one.

Very interested in the Android Karenina book. I'll have to add that to my list!

Oh count me in please. I seem to have lost my way last year and almost stopped reading completely.

Got a kindle for Christmas though and have bought a few books. So far I've just read Wonder by RJ Palacio, not a long story, but very uplifting.

Am reading Revenge of a Middle Aged Women, it's a bit depressing and I'm not sure why I thought it would be any good, but I'll get it finished before I move on.

Really want to read Pride & Prejudice this year.

Huge book, some parts of which I must admit to skimming - enjoyed parts of it as love London history but just couldn't keep up with all the genealogical strands and contrived stories. But that's my first book this year done and dusted.

I'm on a slow start to 2013 as reading Pride & Prejudice but definitely up for the challenge. I'll have to alternate with some quick reads as well.

I did 49 last year!!!! Surely I can make 50 this year.

Have read 3 already this year:

100 year old man etc, loved it.
The hand that first held mine, also loved it.
The Sculptress, which was utter drivel.

Feel a "classic" coming next. Got a few on my Kindle.

Also totally skint until end of the month, so readings lots will help the time pass quickly!!!!

I'm in, please - not least because I have made a storming start to 2013 by clocking off three books so far, two of which had been lurking on the bookshelf collecting dust for far too long:

White Tiger (really pleased I blew the dust off that one, a really interesting and surprisingly witty read)

Cranford (so short that it could explain why I've managed to read three books in a week, but it was so gentle and feel good that it made me smile!)

The Black House (not as gripping as I'd hoped, but was good to read)

I didn't realize we could include one we had already read this year so my first book was Dominion by C J Sansom. Really gripping book about what could have happened if Britain had surrendered in 1940.

Please count me in! Just finished "The Bone Bed" - Patricia Cornwell from the Scarpetta series- usual rubbish plot and annoying and probably unrealistic interweave between personal and professional life but I am addicted to the characters and always get the latest one in my Christmas stocking. That was number one.
Now moved on to "Bringing up the Bodies" by Hilary Mantel- so far loving it and I loved Wolf Hall to which it is the sequel.
Looking forward to saving some money too so some freebie classic already on the Kindle for when the Christmas books run out!!

I'm starting another book on my kindle, as the baby has decided to have a nap just as we got to the cafe! I didn't bring the book I was reading last night though. It's a short novella rather than an actual book, does that count? It's "under the olive tree" by Courtney Miller Santo.

I read about 10 a month too.
Just read 'The Secret Keeper' by Kate Morton,which was actually really good.
Also the third in the Blackhouse trilogy by Peter May,called The Chessmen.Read it on Kindle,but not as good as his previous two.
Simon Tolkien 'Orders from Berlin' as I love wartime espionage.
The first of a trilogy on Kindle from Kerry Wilkinson about a Manchester police woman,wasn't bad at all.
And one I picked up in the library set in 1980's Suffolk about a girl who finds a dead abandoned baby and the repurcussions it has on her and her family.Can't remember name
