Have just read The End Of The Affair, it was my first Graham Greene. I love how he writes. I'm no literary expert but am finding i love some writers and cant be doing with thrashy stuff.
So which GG would you recommend i read next?

Our man in Havana is brilliant, very funny. I haven't read any other GG books so cant compare.

Taranta · 30/12/2012 19:33

The Heart of the Matter. I love his books, tho they are all somewhat depressing...

Cheesemonkey · 30/12/2012 19:34

Brighton Rock is a must and I love Our Man in Havana.

queenofthepirates · 30/12/2012 19:36

Our Man in Havana is superb

poozlepants · 30/12/2012 19:36

Our Man in Havana is good.
The Power and the Glory is, however one of the dullest books I have ever had the misfortune to read.

ohfunnyFRANKENface · 30/12/2012 19:39

England Made Me is one of my favourites! If you liked the end of the affair you'll love England Made Me.

Brighton Rock (obv)

Travels With My Aunt is very funny, as is The Diary of a Nobody!

HoratiaWinwood · 30/12/2012 19:41

The Tenth Man.

::shudders comfortably::

weevilswobble · 30/12/2012 21:11

Oooooo! You girls are just fabulous.
England Made Me it is!

When I was a wee whippet snapper I read a book called 'Just Ferret' (Gene Kemp- also wrote The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler) and in it she had a character who loved Graham Greene and England Made Me and named her daughter after one of the characters- imagine my excitement as an adult to read the novel and be jolted back to my snotty nosed childhood when I recognised the character's name!!

I hope you enjoy it!

2sugarsandadog · 30/12/2012 22:33

End of the Affair here too. It's just so beautifully written. Bits of it I just keep re-reading. Without wanting to sound horribly sexist I think it's a gift that he could write so well from a woman's perspective. Amazing book.

sundaywriter · 30/12/2012 22:35

The Quiet American is my favourite.

eatyourveg · 31/12/2012 08:34

The End of the Affair is my all time favourite book! Although the ending in the film is changed, it is still worth watching - some of the script is straight from the text

weevilswobble · 31/12/2012 09:17

eatyourveg how do they change the ending in the film?

OP posts:
eatyourveg · 31/12/2012 20:09

Maurice moves in with Henry and Sarah in one version and in the other he doesn't

sonearsofar · 01/01/2013 17:48

I've loved The End of the Affair and Our Man in Havana, and would also recommend Stamboul Train, but find others of his books more difficult.

Francagoestohollywood · 01/01/2013 18:04

My fav is The quiet American

weevilswobble · 01/01/2013 20:08

eatyourveg but that changes the whole thing if Sarah isnt dead. Dont know about changes like that in a film version.

OP posts:
eatyourveg · 02/01/2013 07:29

sarah is dead- the ending is the same its just the living arrangements that aren't

maillotjaune · 02/01/2013 08:20

Read The Human Factor for O level and still think about it. Due another re-read soon.

Levantine · 02/01/2013 08:23

The Quiet American is brilliant. Best closing line of any novel I've ever read

weevilswobble · 02/01/2013 11:26

Have picked up Brighton Rock from a bookshelf at my Mums house, so its that one by default next!

Studied The Power and The Glory for O level. Absolutely awful book. Loved Brighton Rock.
