Has anyone read anything by him or know anything about him? I am dragging dh to meet him (am sure he is dying to meet yet another bloody writer!) tonight at a cocktaily type thing and I think he is going to read something from his latest novel "Innocent" - or so it says on the invite.

Apparently he looks a little like Bruce Willis Grin

I think he's more recent books are excellent. The first one I read was too gory for me, but The Innocent was really good (I think- I can never remember which is which). I bought an older one thinking it was new (it had just been re-released) and got to page 80 or so and then realised I simply couldn't be arsed to continue. I guess he's improved :) Have a nice time!

tamum · 11/04/2006 14:01

"he's more recent"????? What was I thinking Shock. His, that would be.

Twiglett · 11/04/2006 14:02

you are not supposed to be going to a literary event to drool over author's brawn you know Grin

Turquoise · 11/04/2006 14:08

I like his stuff, twisty thrillers but if the Innocent's the one I'm thinking of , v annoying neat ending. They're all called similar things and I tend to forget what I've read or not, but good trashy fun.
Don't supppose there's much chance he'll be in a sweaty vest Bruce style but you can always hope and leer anyway Grin

tamum · 11/04/2006 14:10

I drooled over Ted Hughes once. I would defy anyone not to have to be honest :o

GDG · 11/04/2006 14:11

Oh yes, I've read a couple of his books and really liked them...now what were they called??? Oh, Tell Noone and the other was....something about Gone??

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:12

I might leave dh at home and wear mascara. \link{http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=lang_fr&rls=GAPB,GAPB:2005-09,GAPB:en&q=+site:www.webrighter.co.uk+harlan+coben\hunky harlan}

Oh yes, ditch dh, I would. Maybe some lippy, too.

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:16

Yes, dh definitely cramped my style on my Jonathan Coe sortie.

Gone for Good - that was the first one I read.

He's quite nice!!

jmum6 · 11/04/2006 14:20

ooh I like a good Harlan Coben, love the myron series, even though they're all quite similiar.
Innocent was good, even though it had a predictable ending. Loved Tell No One though!

And you get to meet him? Envy

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:26

God knows why, but they all come to Bordeaux Grin

Twiglett · 11/04/2006 14:32

find it difficult to take him seriously as an author as his name reminds me of the character in 5th element ...

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:35

I will tell you later if he is worth taking seriously, Twigs.

OP posts:
suzywong · 11/04/2006 14:40

yes the character if fifth element
I love Bruce
MI is alway going on about him as an authour
if he does look like Bruce can you snog him from me

ggglimpopo · 11/04/2006 14:44

OK Suzywong.

I've been involved in converting all his books into audiobook format and love them! I think that they are fab 'junk food' reads - easy and fun. I know all the murders etc. are obviously gruesome but there is a lot of humour in it too, with loads of larger than life characters and always a man with a really sensitive side (!). I have just done his v. latest, 'Promise Me' (published next month I think) in which Myron Bolitar returns after a 5 year absence and it is jolly good. My favourite is still Tell No One. Lucky you, ggglimpopo to be meeting him. Have heard through the publishing world that he is getting a bit full of himself with all his success though …

Twiglett · 11/04/2006 16:02

Korben Dallas (I looked it up)

pashmina · 11/04/2006 19:23

Tell no one is fab, if a little gory in places. I couldnt put it down, and by the look of the author - I mihght struggle to put him down too! enjoy meting him

MrsSpoon · 11/04/2006 23:01

My DH reads loads of Harlan Coben, I agree that the titles and covers are too similar, there is one in particular that he recommends I read it might be Tell No One.

Enjoy meeting him! Smile

ggglimpopo · 12/04/2006 08:27

He was cuddly (euphemism for well padded) and witty, as opposed to hunky and erudite.

I bought dh a book in French - Tell no one, I think - and one for myself in English, which I put down when I poured myself a (third) glass of the excellent wine provided. When I remembered my book and went back for it, it had gone. I went and told the chappie organising it all (looked like a TV presenter, all huge smiles and linen suit) and he marched up to this woman in a wheelchair who was queuing for HC to sign her books, and snatched it away from her and gave it to me. Shock.

When I protested he said that she had just taken it in English to look good, but she was French and could just as well read it in French and not to worry.Blush

"Tell no one" is being made into a film here in France.

The buffet and booze were great; Jonathan didn't even offer canapés.......Wink
