Arghh. Twilight is spoiled forever!

Has anyone else re read twilight after reading 50 shades and found they're opinion of Edward has changed? I used to love the first bit of twilight as a lovely romance as they fall for each other. I'm on the part where he goes to rescue bella from getting beat up when she goes dress shopping. And all i can see now is how dominating and strict Edward is! And he is! I can see where EL James got her ideas now. I never saw this side of Edward before. Now i can't get it outta my head. I feel twilight will forever be spoiled for me now :( still good but very different. Anyone else feel the same?

50 Shades Of Grey was originally Twilight Fanfiction.

SecretCervix · 11/11/2012 14:10

She changed the names and released it as a book.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 11/11/2012 14:25

No because that is exactly how I saw Edward the first time I read Twilight.

MissWinklyParadiso · 11/11/2012 14:27

The dreadful writing, poor plotting and unlikeable characters spoiled Twilight forever.

tiggy114 · 11/11/2012 14:29

Thats what i'm saying. Since i read 50 shades and found out it was twilight fanfic, when i now re read twilight, all i can see is a really dominating male character! The sweet love story has now changed forever into a some what more adult thing all together!

I read amazing Wolfpack fanfiction instead now-can't read Bella/Edward at all! In most of the stories I like we agree that Bella was under thrall to vampire Edward and thus why she became vapid and weak willed!
Unfortunately that means I spend the films in a state of horror and denial!

tiggy114 · 11/11/2012 14:31

Fanofthe it's interesting that you picked up on that part of edward which totally went over my head. Didn't see him as dominating alpha male at all! Do now though.

I like the Twilight books and haven't read 50 shades books but I think its always seemed obvious that Edward was emotionally manipulative bordering on abusive.

He disabled her car so she couldn't visit friends.

He regularly threatened to kill himself (by exposure to volturi) if she left.

He would withdraw/allow contact between the two when it suited him.

And don't get me started on Bella with her rediculously old fashioned outlook on life...

But I shall overlook all of this as out is fiction after all :o

tiggy114 · 11/11/2012 14:38

God i noticed there is alot of stalking going on. Your right. It's like i'm reading a different book this time around. The rose tinted veil has been lifted! And don't forget he keeps glamouring her to soften her up and bend her to his will!

Oops x-post glad its not just me then :)

LadyMargolotta · 11/11/2012 14:40

You've actually read Twilight twice?Shock

SilveryMoon · 11/11/2012 14:41

i had never looked at it like that before.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/11/2012 14:43

I'm with LadyMargo here. reread Twilight?

That's on a par with storing open wine imo

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 11/11/2012 14:44

Nope, I always saw it for the twishite that it is. If it helps more people realise it then dammit maybe 50 Shades does have a purpose after all.

Well erm Blush lol. To be honest, i really enjoyed em first read as a summer beach easy read. I like romance, excitment and vampires. Since the new films out soon, i figured i'd re read along side a hard going novel as some light relief. But all i can see now is a dominating aggressive male which has kinda spoilt it for me. Any other suggestions?

Got sent this link a while back

and this one...

BleepingSooty · 11/11/2012 14:52

And don't forget he keeps glamouring her to soften her up and bend her to his will!

Bella couldn't be glamoured due to her special power.

tiggy114 · 11/11/2012 14:54

Oh no gobbler. I am of the crowd who enjoyed 50 shades and the da vinci code Blush but i don't expect intelligent writing, just an entertaining easy read. When your trying to decipher beowulf from old english, you need some light relief Grin

Have just finished the 50 shades books and actually really enjoyed them, found them far more vanilla than I thought they would be but yes, you are sadly right.

I knew they were originally Twilight fan fiction though so I guess I spoiled it for myself by reading them.

Quite badly written though. I haven't been able to take them as serious as Twilight and I swear the next time I see a hyphen I may scream.
