Not that I am particularly high brow in my readig, it spans huge swathes of themes, writers and periods, however some is hard going and sometimes when I just want a break I read,

Catherine Cookson
Agatha Christie

but, mostly Catherine Cookson and I am building up a collection. I can't walk past a 20p Cookson and not buy it.

Who are the authors you read when you want to just have a quick read?

The Chalet School - I read them when I'm ill, stressed, tired.... and when I'm well and happy.

It's always reassuring to find out that Jo is still a real Chalet School girl.

dearprudence · 28/08/2012 19:30

Jilly Cooper.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/08/2012 19:33

I'm mad for Chalet School again at the moment. I also zoom through a Sweet Valley.

For something slightly more grown up, I re-read a Maeve Binchy.

GetOrfMoiCuntCake · 28/08/2012 20:52

Penny Vincenzi.
Joanna Trolloppe

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/08/2012 20:55

Haha at Sweet Valley. I remember taking them out of the library.

Oh and Katie Fforde and Trisha Ashley

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 21:08

I love Cecelia aherne, and shopaholic author

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 28/08/2012 21:10

Oh yes Sophie Kinsella. Although I'm going off Becky Bloomwood now, as she is starting to seem like a pathological liar, and now just relies on her husband's massive bank balance to bail her out of any problems she has...

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 21:13

that's the name
love shopaholic books

KikkiK · 28/08/2012 21:14

Mine's Lyn Andrews. I love a good Liverpool wartime romance!

hugoagogo · 28/08/2012 21:18

Julia Quinn-Her regency romances are so addictive, but are so unconvincing in their period detail (not to mention pre-marital sex!) and even the British detail is all wrong as Quinn is American and keeps mentioning city blocks and other things that make a huge CLUNK noise when I read, I still can't keep reading them. Blush

DuchessofMalfi · 28/08/2012 21:55

Katie Fforde and Janet Evanovich :)

NotGeoffVader · 28/08/2012 22:02

Quite enjoy Lauren Willig books - a bit silly, but entertaining.

Also find P.G Wodehouse, Patricia Cornwell and Sophie Kinsella nice light reading.

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 28/08/2012 22:08

Anita Shreve or James Lee Burke, very different but they do the job for me.

SrirachaGirl · 28/08/2012 22:10

VC Andrews Blush.

HabitsofaLifetime · 28/08/2012 22:16

I loved sweet valley books as a teenager!
My guilty pleasure book as an adult is Martina cole, most of her stories are similar, same kind of background story etc but once I start reading I can't put them down
