Back to the beginning. There are all sorts of little things you won't have picked up on the first time round that you will the second.

MordionAgenos · 18/08/2012 10:15

Or you. Old read something else? Grin

MordionAgenos · 18/08/2012 10:15

could not old. Bloody iPad.

Trills · 18/08/2012 10:16

If you want something looooooong go for Wheel of Time.

AlmostAHipster · 18/08/2012 10:17

I'm in the same boat and grieving the loss :) so I'm going back to the beginning to make flow charts and mind maps so I don't forget any vital details

Vix07 · 18/08/2012 10:28

I finished these a couple of months ago and felt quite lost for a few days, sad eh? like the idea of re-reading tho, if I can resist the temptation to skip huuuge chunks of book 3 (?) which was a little slow.

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 12:02

I don't think I can face going back to the start yet. It's been a huge commitment to get this far!

Maybe I'll re-read all the Pratchetts in order...

Patrick Rothfuss - "The Name of the Wind" is the first one, I've just finished the 2nd one but trilogy/series not finished yet
Joe Abercrombie - "The Blade Itself" first in a trilogy
Tad Williams? Robin Hobb?
And of course who I always recomend - anything by Guy Gavriel Kay

Have fun!

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 20:29

Thanks for the recommendations Grouching

Stephen king's the dark tower series.

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 20:36

I was thinking about doing that earlier today but then thought that I'd miss some of the interesting stories he gives you about the other characters when the book isn't about them

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 20:40

veeeee very nearly cross posted there as that's always my back up plan. DS was bought a Gunslinger t shirt before he was born Smile

Really?? That is awesome Grin

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 22:05

Yep. Have had a few appreciative nods recently

MrsTwinks · 18/08/2012 22:09

where next? lots of nagging encouraging letters to George R R Martin? Wink

PervyMuskrat · 18/08/2012 23:06

Balls. Lost my response. I thought GRRM didn't react to that sort of thing Grin. RobIn Hobb or Charlaine Harris might be more amenable?

MordionAgenos · 19/08/2012 07:51

As Neil Gaiman says -GRRM is not our bitch. Grin :(

This is a really very funny video about the whole 'he's not our bitch'/'we need more' issue. Write like the wind, GRRM!

MordionAgenos · 19/08/2012 07:52

Sorry,

Ephiny · 19/08/2012 07:57

Not sure how easy they are to get hold of these days, but have you read GRRM's short stories/novellas set in the same 'world'?

(I also went back to the start Blush)

Robin Hobb's Liveship trilogy is good, fairly 'grown up' fantasy too.

jammietart · 20/08/2012 07:32

I'm in the same boat! Think I will start again as I'm quite confused at this point. There's always the TV series if you haven't seen it. Third installment of that due soon I believe.

PervyMuskrat · 20/08/2012 20:06

Mordian, that's hysterical. Thanks for posting that, it's cheered my Monday up!

Ephiny, will try and look for the novellas. I'm a big fan of the Robin Hobb books (with the possible exception of the Soldier Son trilogy) but might want something a little cheerier to read Smile

Jammietart we have the first season on Bluray but we don't have Sky so we're having to wait for the second season. Dying to see how they do certain scenes!

Trills · 20/08/2012 20:54

I wish GRRM was our bitch

Galaxymum · 21/08/2012 10:12

I feel so lucky - just started the first book and am hooked already. Completely hooked after watching the 1st two series, but love all the extra snippets of information in the book.

jammietart · 21/08/2012 17:11

Well I'm slightly more fortunate than I realised as I was only one part 1 of A Dance of Dragons so still have a few days of reading material to go!
