Holiday reading for DH - ideas please!!

DH doesn't read all that much, but does like a few books for when we go away. Usually he ends up spending a small fortune on "airport specials" (ie. mega bucks editions) and I wondered whether I might encourage him to give it some thought ahead of time so that I can get these at better prices from Amazon or elsewhere and save our hard earned holiday cash for the holiday itself!!

He quite enjoyed the Steig Larsson trilogy and also likes Andy McNab style stuff, some sports biography type books..... ie. quite bloke-ish and page turner style rather than "classics" etc.

What did your DH/DP read on holiday - any ideas most gratefully received.

TIA.

Chris Ryan is similar in vein to Andy McNab, blokey 'easy reads'

Simon Kernick (relentless) is 'page turner style' again, and would suit a male I think.

DP enjoys books by theses authors, like yours he is not much of a reader really (how?how?why?)

These are excellent. My DH devoured the whole lot in a few weeks. They are about Genghis Khan and are based on his life and real events, but essentially are a series of very exciting, adult adventure stories:

and the rest of the series:

The Black Angel by John Connolly.

The sequel, Wrath Of Angels is out on August 31st.

Try Simon Lelic's books - thrillers, pretty dark but great stories. Great holiday read. Rupture is great.

My DH is currently enjoying Papillon by Henri Charrière

There's one called Silver that is likened to the Davinci Code, but is so much better. I hated DVC, and don't usually read thrillers in that vein, but my Dad loved Silver and persuaded me to try it and it was enjoyable. The plot has some nice little twists and unexpected moments, and was just more "believeable" than DVC.
I second John Connolly, anything and everything by him, he is brilliant, but very creepy and scary! Grin

My OH has discovered Jack Higgins as he's read all of Andy McNab and Chris Ryan's books.

The amateurs by john niven. Wasn't expecting to enjoy this as essentially it's a book about golf but loved his previous novel so gave it a shot. Loved it, passed it to DH fully expecting him to read a few pages and turn his nose up but he loved it too.

My DH is reading the CJ Sansom Tudor mystery series. Might be worth a try.

Headhunters by Jo Nesbo.

James Brabazon - My Friend the Mercenary. I've just read it - fascinating
Gregorey David Roberts - Shantaram - I guarantee he will not be able to put this one down! Gripping.
