Just PMSL - other people on the bus think I am the mad woman. Can't wait to read his other books - he's hysterical Grin

had this book on my shelf for years! have yet to read it - but as you seem to be enjoying it, it will be next at the bedside Grin

I read this a while back and enjoyed it. It was funny. Also read another one of his - the one hit wonder one (or something similar).

We also have One Hit Wonderland & Playing Tennis with Moldovians. I just like his style, it is very easy going & funny, so cheers me up on bus after work :)

This is a great one to get on audiotape for older relatives at Christmas time as it's pretty harmless (if they can handle the shag in the doghouseGrin)

alexsmum · 08/03/2006 17:56

yes milliways-it's really funny!
have you got to the end yet?

Blandmum · 08/03/2006 17:57

very funny!

Milliways · 08/03/2006 18:25

my favourite bit was the end when he marched into the town...hilarious!

roisin · 08/03/2006 18:30

It's great isn't it? I remember laughing out loud when reading this book - and one of his others. (Dh didn't think I'd like it.)

Have you been to Ireland? I love Ireland and have been over on holiday a couple of times - the book is so believable, which makes it all the more hysterical.

TinyGang · 08/03/2006 18:31

I think he read the Moldovian Tennis one on Radio4. It was really funnySmile. I like Tony Hawks - he pops up on tv and radio from time to time and is always worth listening to.

Milliways · 08/03/2006 18:35

Roisin - I have a friend with a B&B on the Ring of Kerry. Must go & visit her again as it's sooo beautiful there. And yes, the book is very believable having been in a few Irish pubs etc.

We ahd this at book group after Roisin recommended it, it was a hit with all of us, but one woman read it and thought he was gay ???????

Oliviab · 11/03/2006 13:48

My mum saw him at a writers' conference full of little old ladies, he was the guest speaker. She said he looked like an alien landed amongst a planet of tiny grey-haired knitted people - about 6'6", deep deep tan and bright blue eyes, waistdeep in an autograph mob. Grin

JoolsToo · 09/04/2006 23:26

right - this one is my next - another one I've had for years but never read - now is the time.

jampots · 09/04/2006 23:29

I read this a few years ago - I nearly PMSL. Loved the bit about the death notices especially.

werewabbit · 10/04/2006 00:22

How freaky, just happened on this thread and am in the middle of reading it. Having a bit of an irish binge right now, just finished Pete McCarthy's 'McCarthy's Pub' (think that's the title). If you like Hawks one, try this as it is v. similar, tho McCarthy is probably a better writer and tries a little less hard to get the gags but is still laugh out loud stuff. Having said that, for pure entertainment value i'm enjoying the fridge one just as much.

kipper22 · 10/04/2006 07:45

loved this and playing moldovans... currently reding dave gormans googlewhack which is also leaving me giggling every night - think i'm going to read some more of his next.
