Going to be in hospital for a week, need some good books to read.

Ideally a book that will make me sigh with satisfaction upon reading it, you know - the kind of book that's a really good read, that you can't put down and will read again and again.

I refuse to read 50 shades, that's not my type at all.

I've downloaded the hunger games already, anything else, classics or modern?

Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser, should last the week,
Middlesex by... Sorry can't remember but v. v. good.
Old hat but have you read The Yummy Mummy Diaries? Worth it but (light).
The Little Friend by Donna Tart.
Have a good week. I mean get well.Smile

I have no idea if it's any good or not, but James Patterson has one out called "Private Games" about a murder of a member of the London Olympic committee on the eve of the games.

A timely read!!

The Observations by Jane Harris would be perfect .. long, absorbing, funny in places and really well-written.

Also the Cazalet Chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard if you like historical family sagas .. but more literary than most in this genre,

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett is absolutely magic; also State of Wonder by the same author is excellent. Novels that will stay with you and you will think about years after you read them.

Hope all goes well for you next week :)

There are lots of classics that are often free, or if not free, dirt cheap - LM Montgomery, Susan Coolige, HG Wells, Jules Verne to name but a few. The Game of Thrones ones are on offer, or were earlier, and less than 4 pounds each - they are big enough to keep you going for ages! although I'm not sure how they would read on Kindle - I have the actual books from when they came out, and spent a lot of time referring to the "Who's Who" guide thing at the back Grin
Ben Aaronovitch's (sp?) Rivers of London series is good - and the first ones are on offer because the new one just came out.
All the Discworld books are available on Kindle, I love those, they are sort of light hearted and "deep and meaningful" at the same time, and I can read them over and over again Grin
If you like Hunger Games type stuff, you could try LM Pruitt, or one called Graves' End, or Scary Mary (which is free just now) and the sequel - I enjoyed them all.

Anything by Jonathan Tropper but particularly 'this is where I leave you'. It's brilliant.
Not sure if it's on Kindle but try 'Plainsong' by Kent Haruf, different to Tropper but superb.

I've just posted these two on another thread.

The House By The Sea by Santa Montefiore
