I got 2 of her books cheap at a coffee morning, The Scold's bridle and the Ice House. Although I enjoyed them both, i did prefer The Ice house. Are all her books in a similar vein?

Actually they get better and more complex, and some are quite different. My favourites are The Dark Room (main character is spiky and interesting and has lost her memory), Acid Row (about vigilantism and its dangers) and the Chameleon's Shadow (which actually has some lighter bits in it whilst still being very tense).

I like all her books, but these three stand out for me.

I haven't read The Scold's Bridle.

I liked The Ice House but don't think it's one of her best.

I loved The Sculptress and Acid Row. Acid Row is excellent.

I've enjoyed all of them but not sure I've read the dark room. May have to investigate!

Thanks everyone I shall go and google a few of them

The only two I could really get into were 'acid row' and 'the dark room'. Quite different but good reads.

One of my favourite authors. One of the things I like about her is that you can pretty much work out which year they were written due to the topical subject matter. I love her research and how she makes you think about people's motivation.

Which reminds me, I need to buy one for my holiday!

nellypackedhertrunk · 18/07/2012 11:00

Harrumph, she hasn't done anything new...

butisthismyname · 18/07/2012 12:33

Have you read any of Susan Hill's Simon Serraillier crime novels? They are fan-flipping-tastic. Take two or three on holiday..

nellypackedhertrunk · 21/07/2012 20:25

Just taken a look at the Susan Hill books - look quite similar to Minetter Walters.

solidgoldbrass · 22/07/2012 00:26

Try some Val McDermid, as well, though not the Tony Hill novels as you will probably find it hard to rid your mind of the image of Robson Greene doing his usual manifestation of a man suffering deep anguish and torment because his underpants are too small.

Also try Patricia Cornwell. I love these sort of books. If you also like psych type stuff try Jonathan Kellerman.
