Diary style books - any recommendations?

I'm having a bit of a reading slump at the moment. I keep picking books that are a bit meh and giving up on them. I really fancy a diary style read this week, does anyone have any recommendations for me? We're on our summer hols and I'm bookless!

Thanks

If you like Jane Austen then Amanda Grange has written a series based around her novels in diary form. I read Mr Darcy's Diary earlier this year and it wasn't bad.

Other than that, Bridget Jones? Can't think of any more atm.

Any Danny Wallace book, but especially friends like these or yes man, very funny.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is written as an exchange of emails .. not exactly a diary I know, but might suit you if you fancy something episodic.

Diary of a Nobody is a quick easy read and still an absolute classic 120 years after first being published :)

What about Adrian Mole? Grin

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie is in the form of letters.
Absolutely loved this book (despite being a real 'book club fave') because it was witty and bittersweet and very sad but only in a few places.

Will have a look at the Amanda Grange and Danny Wallaces ones as have read all the other excellent recommendations! Thanks

Diary of a provincial lady. Funny.

CustardCreamy · 05/07/2012 21:42

It's a bit rude and racy but the London Call Girl series by Belle Du Jour is rather marvellous, I also just finished reading Dawn French's A Tiny Bit Marvellous which is diary entries from 3 different members of the same family and absolutely fantastic!

Any Human Heart - William Boyd

How could I have forgotten Diary of a Nobody? I re-read it earlier this year.
How about the Diary of Anne Frank?

GreatExpectations2012 · 06/07/2012 14:05

Loved the Dawn French one and Anne Frank. Any Human Heart looks fab, have downloaded the sample. Diary of a Provincial Lady will have to be a library borrow when I get to the UK next week. Thanks for the ideas everyone, have a healthy list now.

Not a fiction book but I thought that one of Piers Morgan's books was very good. I'm not a fan of his but the one written about his times as Editor of the Mirror/NOTW was really interesting.

Daddy Long Legs - it's a children's book written as a series of letters from an orphaned girl to her rich benefactor. It's really lovely and great fun.

I really disliked Diary Of A Provincial Lady - had high hopes for it too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2012 17:30

Oh and what about Dracula?

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/07/2012 17:30

The Wrong Boy - Willy Russell

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2012 17:35

And The Wrong Boy has the added excitement of Morrissey. :)

TheLightPassenger · 07/07/2012 18:59

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 09/07/2012 12:14

Suzannes Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson......a brilliant book :)

MimsyBorogroves · 12/07/2012 21:20

The perks of being a wallflower - Stephen chbosky. It's one of my favourite books.

Quenelle · 13/07/2012 12:41

I loved 84 Charing Cross Road.

drjohnsonscat · 15/07/2012 15:30

Oh yes 84 charing x road is lovely. Need to get a copy of that to reread.

DancesWithSockPuppets · 15/07/2012 15:36

You make me feel like an unnatural woman by Judith Newman. Account of an over-40 woman who has twins - very witty and engaging.

GreatExpectations2012 · 19/07/2012 10:31

Fabulous recommendations, many thanks.
