The Ultimate Teen Book Guide ... Worth the wait? ...

A definite NO from me. It's here for inf.

It doesn't do what the Ultimate Book Guide 8-12s does. And it doesn't do what I hoped a teen book guide would do.

So all in all it's a big disappointment, and it was 2 weeks' late from Amazon

My money-saving tip for you for this month: Don't bother buying this book!

Thanks for the warning Roisin! I haven't bought the 8 - 12 one either - do you know if they are updating it? DD1 is at that awkward stage where she wants to read teenage fiction but I just don't have the time to read everything to check for suitability first. She loved the Kevin Crossley-Holland "Arthur" series but said that the third one had lots of bad language and I suspect some of it might have been inappropriate for her. She's about to start "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" which takes me back to my younger days.
Was it you who recommended Eoin Colfer's "The Legend of Captain Crow's Teeth"? DD2 is really enjoying it!

Yes, it was me - well ds2 - who recommend Captain Crow's Teeth!

One of the things I hoped the Teen Book Guide would do would give some indication of content/suitable ages. And on my first flick through I thought it didn't!

However dh spotted that there is an age guideline or against each book. I missed it somehow

But I don't agree with the guidelines anyway.
Alex Rider, Silverfin, Artemis Fowl, etc. all get .. fine there. But Sabriel and Raven's Gate get the same?

Private Peaceful gets - I've no idea why.

Curious Incident gets - presumably just because of the swearing.

Lady Chatterley gets which I think is a bit steep. But Forever (which I haven't read but have heard about) only gets , as does The Beach.

I guess - like you - I was hoping this book would give some sort of guidance as to which Teenage books are OK reading for 8-10 yr-olds, but it doesn't really.
