Kindle to take on holiday.

I'm thinking about getting a Kindle to take on holiday.

Mainly because books are heavy and I normally run out the last few days of the holidays.

I really enjoyed the Millennium trilogy. Any ideas of something similar that is available on Kindle without breaking the bank. I have to say that if it wasn't for the weight of the books in my suitcase I don't think I would get one. Kindle downloads seem rather expensive.

thanks.

There are masses of free book available for the kindle which you probably wouldn't read if they were in paper format. That's what I use my kindle for and it's great.

Thank you for the heads up about the jubilee sale - my kindle is now well stocked with loads of social history books ready for my camping hol next week!

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking forward to receiving my Kindle now, only a few more weeks as it is a birthday present. But... I'm still not sure about missing the feeling of holding a book and turning real pages.

Thousands of free books about! Go to Amazon, and search 'Kindle eBooks'. I bought discs with 11 000 books on for 2.99. Even if 99% of them are crap, there's a couple of hundred worth reading.

For free books on kindle, go to Amazon and try:

Hostile Witness
The Golden Acorn
Golden Lies
The Phoenix Conspiracy
Ryan's Return
Sentence of Marriage
Pestilence
Turtle Boy
Penal Colony

The last one is a cracker, do get a kindle, they're amazing!!!

P.S the feeling of holding a 'real' book goes away. I used to love the feel of paperback books, but now my kindle gives me the same pleasure!

I have a Kindle cover that opens like a book which makes the whole thing a lot better. A Kindle on its own would be weird. BUT Kindle covers are almost as expensive as the ruddy device itself, bizarrely. I was lucky and got both as presents.

OP is asking about books like Millennium books, and everyone is ignoring her Grin

OP - So you would like to read intelligent detective/crime novels?

Have you read Silence Of The Lambs or Red Dragon?

macthecatsmum · 04/06/2012 19:15

A bit off thread, but i got so fed up looking for a nice kindle cover that wasnt plastic, from China or naff-found Lente- small British company who make lots of funky designs and if you get the slightly faulty ones(just a bit of wonkyness) they are under a tenner. and no i don't work for them. I like Camilla Lackburg books - Swedish crime thrillers.

The Straw Men by Michael Marshall - a thriller trilogy which you might like.

Agree that you don't get a kindle to save money, some of the kindle books are more expensive than the paperbacks. Having said that I absolutely love mine.

Our local library has started loaning out ebooks, but its not kindle friendly, so it might be worth looking at other ereaders.

Can I recommend 'The Woman before Me' by Ruth Dugdall. I got it on Kindle for 99p in one of their promotions and it really is one of those books that stays with you long after you've read it.

Not like Millenium admittedly (although I read those and loved them) but thought a provoking crime novel.

I have found with my Kindle that I have discovered loads of new authors because of the cheap Amazon promotions. They push a lot of first novels and some have been fantastic. I currently have 22 books awaiting me on my Kindle which have all been less than two pounds and in most case 99p.
