Love love loving this book!!

Any other fans out there??

I love New York and particularly this period of its history as well as the fabulously witter banter. I don't want the book to end!

I bought a copy a couple of weeks ago, but haven't started it yet. If you like this era, have you read The Great Gatsby? I read it recently and loved it.

I have it on my amazon wishlist. Sounds like I should just get it Smile

I do love the Great Gatsby too; the whole era and the way it's written.

I've read it and I really enjoyed it. I too love New York in this period. I wish I could get in a time machine and visit there!

moonblushtomato · 16/05/2012 19:41

Yes Nora I have read the Great Gatsby, its wonderful thought I probably enjoyed Tender is the Night more. Might re-read that one of these days, if I ever get the time Hmm

Abcintha a time machine would be most exciting!

Another great book about New York during this time is The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rosenfeld.

Loved it. Have been busy recommending it to my bookish friends. We recently read 'the best of everything' for book club. Another interesting look at new York life but in the 50's

moonblushtomato · 21/05/2012 18:39

OOh thanx shopping, I haven't heard of that one. Will look it up Smile

Is more a docu- novel. You will enjoy it more if you read it as an exposé of new York life rather than a novel IMO. I found it really interesting and a good point of comparison with rules of civility.

I read this and loved it! Have you read The Pursuit of Happiness by Duncan Kennedy? It's set in the present day and also late 1940's and 50's New York. The descriptions of New York from that era are amazing. I would definitely go there in a time machine!

YouGoonie · 26/05/2012 20:24

Sorry Douglas Kennedy!

moonblushtomato · 27/05/2012 21:54

No Goonie, that sounds like a good one!

Saw it on C4 book club ages ago, and finally got around to reserving it at the library today. Can't wait for it to arrive, sounds just my cup of tea!

Have got it on my kindle waiting for my holiday next week. So glad to hear that people are loving it Smile.

NoraHelmer · 09/06/2012 20:39

I took it with me on holiday - couldn't bear to put it down. The DC were seriously neglected until I got to the last page :o Loved it :)
