Miaou - I wasn't struck by Wolf Brother, though ds1 loved it; but Spirit Walker is far superior. Hope you all enjoy it!

oooh excellent Roisin - I think I am going to have to hide it from dd1 so she doesn't read on in secret!!

We have just ordered the first Lemony Snicket from the library for her - trying to get her off Harry Potter atm -argh

I've always thought Lemony Snicket would be right up ds1's street, but he's just never gone for it. He's dabbled a bit, read a couple, but he simply isn't gripped by it.

Maybe he's just not quite old enough for it.

Yes, I'm not completely sold on it myself I must say, but dd1 has a very warped sense of humour so I thought it might appeal.

Lemony Snicket is the author, cat. The series is called "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (the first book is called "A Bad Beginning"). I'm not quite clear on what they are about, except that everything goes wrong and they always end miserably, but I get the impression it is all quite tongue-in-cheek. There are thirteen in all (naturally )

You need Roisin here....Roisiiiiiiiiiiin......

My DD 7 and DS 4 loved the Little House on the Prairie series - enjoyed all the bits about how hard it was to catch / grow the food! Now attempting Swallows and Amazons. DD loves the 5 find outers - Enid Blyton - Mystery of Tally Ho Cottage and the rest. Harry Potter of course and Series of Unfortunate Events - the books are excellent in the way they explain the tricker words. Anything by Anne Fine and Neil Gaiman - whose book "The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish" is great - while "Coraline" is scary but a great tale of triumph over evil. Both also loved Charlotte's Web - although read it around Christmas and so the roast pork at the in-laws was not popular!
