I'm two books into a trilogy - The Strain and The Fall - after hearing about them on the post-apocalyptic thread further down. I've enjoyed them but the the vampires in them are a bit grim! (ickky extending stingers in their throats, worms etc. You wouldn't want to shag them basically)

However, the vampires in Twilight are a bit too pretty. Those books make it seem like there's not much of a down side to being undead (you look hot and you get to bonk Edward Cullen for all eternity, and you can still see your Dad for a cuppa)

I loved The Historian and it inspired me to re-read Dracula which is a cracking read and a lot more scary than I remembered!

Salem's Lot was terrifying (good old SK) but I felt there were a lot of plot holes.

What else is there? Is Ann Rice any good? Any suggestions welcome!

My personal favourite vampire book is Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It's lyrical and beautiful and is on a knife edge between the main vampire as hero and villain (plus the vampires dont sparkle grin). I highly recommend reading it.^

I was going to recommend this one! It's utterly aces. Not one to read on a diet tho, strangely, as the heroine is a baker and the books is full of her wonderful concoctions. :-)

Another fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, also Ghostwalker series, and finally the Dark Hunter Series - amazing Smile
