Just finished Before I Go To Sleep, it was a very quick read, but not really my kind of a book.
Before that i read
Shutter Island - liked it
The Giant, O'Brien - loved it, beautifully written
When God Was A Rabbit - OK, but very forgettable
Juliet, Naked - I generally like all Hornby's novels, and enjoyed this one too
Started Early, Took My Dog - not my thing
The Body Farm - first and only Patricia Cornwell book I have read, what a waste of time that was!
The Psychopath Test - very interesting
The Death Of Bunny Munro - disgusting, and not in a good way!
The Dead Republic - LOVED it!
Paula Spencer - very good

So, based on this list of hits and misses, can you recommend me something? My favourite authors are Salman Rushdie and Roddy Doyle.

Thanks, am so looking forward to reading your recommendations!

:)

hmm. Do you like short stories? You could try this collection...Finbar's Hotel

The Little Stranger (Sarah Waters) is great - very spooky and atmospheric, and beautifully written.

Those That Save Us (Jenna Blum) is a book exploring the story of a woman surviving in Nazi Germany with her half Jewish daughter and the emotional repercussions in her life. It's nicely written and engaging.

The Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck) is one of my all time favourites - stunning and epic.

Have you tried the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' trilogy? 'The Hunger Games' trilogy, although for teens, is actually very good.

I am really enjoying Jo Nesbo. Start with Redbreast. It is a crime/thriller series. It is translated from Norwegian.

If you like Salman Rushdie, you might like A S Byatt or Angela Carter - very different but both brilliant. Try Possession for Byatt and Wise Children or Nights At The Circus for Carter. You might well have read them already - neither is new.

Thanks for your replies, I'm putting Finbar's Hotel on my list.
I think I want to move away from crime genre for a while, I feel like I've read too many of those recently.
Haven't read anything by A S Byatt or Angela Carter, so thanks for recommending those notnow, they're going on the list too!
The Grapes Of Wrath is one of those classics I never got round to reading, so that's another one for the list.
I kind of want to read The Hunger Games, but I have to say, the fact that it's teen literature kind of puts me off...

More please!Grin
