Brilliant! The Walsh family stories are the best!

1950sHousewife · 01/04/2012 13:56

Wonderful. Very bittersweet.
Take care though - This Charming Man started out as chicklit froth but became so dark that it put a dampner on my holiday as it brought up many issues in my past about alcoholic parents etc.

NettoSuperstar · 01/04/2012 13:56

Excellent, Last Chance Saloon is my favourite.

sasslejaney84 · 01/04/2012 13:56

she is amazing!!! I LOVE all of the walsh family stories but all of her books are really good and really well written!

LittleAlbert · 01/04/2012 13:56

I really liked Rachel's holiday - and I don't usually like chick lot but that was a great read.

mycatsaysach · 01/04/2012 13:57

Very good indeed. Deals with some heavy issues (alcohol abuse, drug addiction, infertility.... ) in a very readable way, with very lovable characters. I always get a bit exited when I see that there is a new one out.

theonewiththenoisychild · 01/04/2012 15:19

Are these the type of books that you have to read in any particular order? If some belong to sets i'd rather read them in order

NoraHelmer · 01/04/2012 17:33

The first in the Walsh family series is Watermelon. I've read some of the Walsh family novels, and I don't think it really matters if you read them out of order - they're still enjoyable.

cocolepew · 01/04/2012 17:34

Asda had a lot of her books cheap a few weeks ago.

didldidi · 01/04/2012 17:37

No need to read in any particular order. rachel's holiday also my favourite.

suburbandream · 01/04/2012 17:39

I love her books, I suppose they are chicklit, but they do go a lot deeper. Like 1950sHousewife said, This Charming Man is actually very disturbing.

perplexedpirate · 01/04/2012 17:40

Yes! She is ace.

It's been ages since The Brightest Star in the Sky, anyone know if she's got anything due out?

tribpot · 01/04/2012 17:42

I don't think it drastically matters but the Walsh books in order are:

Watermelon
Rachel's Holiday
Angels
Anybody Out There

And the latest one which isn't published yet is the long-awaited Helen book. It would be amazing if Marian did a Mammy-Walsh-when-she-was-young book too at some point, but I'm just glad she is feeling well again, and as a bonus for us: well enough to write.

ABatInBunkFive · 01/04/2012 17:45

Love her, agree with everyone else. There are vague references made in the books about the Walshes but not close enough to be an issue if you happen to read them out of order and i am also the type of person who reads books in the right order iykwim Wink I didn't realise some of her books included the same family before i started reading and it took me a few books before i clicked.

PregnantCappuccinoDrinker · 01/04/2012 18:06

Ooh definitely. They're all great by my absolute favourites are Rachel's Holiday, Angels and Sushi for Beginners.

Can't wait for the Helen Walsh book either!

theonewiththenoisychild · 01/04/2012 21:24

I'll start with the walsh ones and go from there Grin kindle store i suppose as better get some use out of it as had it 2 years and been reading paperbacks mostly

As above, they are funny books for grownups, Rachel's holiday still makes me laugh & cry... Am so glad her black dog has receded, she's fab, Marion.

Fairyloo · 01/04/2012 22:02

She is brill.

Lucy Sullivan and Rachel's holiday my fav

Like under the duvet too

wildfig · 02/04/2012 10:47

I love her writing. Rachel's Holiday is my favourite too - I reread it every year or so and it still makes me laugh. She's got a great natural rhythm, and a brilliant ear for dialogue.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 05/04/2012 10:03

Love, love, love her. I was so sad to hear of her depression as her writing is so snortingly funny and warm and life affirming. So good to hear from posters above that she is back writing again and that the awful depression has lifted.

DontHaveAtv · 05/04/2012 10:29

I love her. Ive never read one of her books and not liked it.

NoraHelmer · 05/04/2012 13:53

I've just been given a copy of her cookery book, Saved by Cake, in which she writes how baking cakes helped bring her out of her depression. It is an utterly gorgeous looking book. I love baking, and reading recipes, so perfect book for me :).
