I've just ordered my Kindle, finally, get it on Monday. Not much spare cash for cover etc, but I do want something as it will be in and out of my bag and also the children may well use it a bit. Not sure which way to go - don't want big heavy thing, but I have seen either:

this folding cover plus clip on light (thinking about the reading in bed option) or

this silicone cover to go with this screen protector and some other separate clip on light (though reviews are awful for most of the ones I saw - cheap end of the market, the clips are too big so you cover up the text on the screen!!)

Is it always advisable to have one of those film screen protectors anyway??

TIA for any feedback.

I have one similar to the first one you have linked to. I got it form ebay and am very happy with it (and dh and dd have the same in different colours too). we don;t have screen protectors and have not had problems.

My next need is a waterproof cover so i can read it in the bath Grin

I had the first one, with the elastic straps, but it felt a bit cheap, but it did the job.

I wanted the proper kindle one with the built in light www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-Keyboard-Lighted-Leather-Cover/dp/B003DZ165W/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1333210887&sr=1-1so splashed out and I really loved it at first, and raved on about it but it's a bit chunky and more than doubles the size of the kindle. I've just started slipping it into the side compartment of my handbag insted, and only use the cover in bed!

You're going to love your Kindle!

I've got a cover like you highlighted in your OP, but mine is actual leather and from Tesco. DH insisted that I had the cover. I didn't really want it, but I'm really glad he insisted as it's easier to hold the Kindle in bed. Don't know about the clip-on light. I had a different one from Maplins, but it wasn't much use, really.

I think the "proper" lighted covers look great, but are very, very expensive.

You're going to love your Kindle. Go on to eReaderiQ website for daily freebies, or just sign on to Amazon, Kindle Shop, Discussions where posters post the best of the daily freebies.

I had a cover that was attached to the kindle and opened like a book at first. It wasn't the amazon one as couldn't bring myself to spend that much even with Christmas money.

After a couple of months I got fed up with it and realised it was so nice to read just holding the kindle. Bought a Timbuk2 neoprene one on Amazon (about £20) and it's perfect. Lightweight but completely closed with Velcro for protection in bag or lying around at home.

I didn't want a light though, have never had a special light for reading books so don't see the need for this, and if you do then obviously a sleeve type cover is no use to you.

Well, have ordered the first one. My Kindle is going to be with me, in my bag etc, so keen that it is secure in a cover and well protected. It's only £7, so if for some reason not quite right, not the end of the world. Can't wait to collect it tomorrow morning!!!!!

Thanks for the advice, all, much appreciated. and Judy - good tip on locating freebies etc, already have a few in my Kindle account, but on the search for more right now!!

I have one of these covers and love it.

As for lights, I have a mighty bright one. I do find it useful for reading when the husband is trying to sleep.

I have a leather cover with a clip on light, £9 for them both

I love my kindle, and that ereaderiq website that Judy mentioned is fab, I have the daily email from there and am also watching some books on there for price drops. Another way to get free titles is on the Project Gutenberg website which has titles that the copyright has run out for, so mostly older books.

Another good way to keep on top of prices for kindle books if you have an iphone with the amazon app is to add kindle titles to your wishlish. If you view your wishlist on the pc it doesn't show prices unless you click into each individual title but on the app it shows the prices without having to look at each individual one. You can't buy kindle titles in the app but you can just switch to the main website or buy them on the kindle. Some titles don't seem to change at all but others vary quite a bit and some paid for books will go much cheaper or even free for a short time.

I would say the main downside I have found to the kindle is that I love it too much and spend more time than I should reading.... also I have started reading some dubious quality titles, my kindle is full of things I would be embarrassed for people to see me reading but luckily they can't tell, all they can see is my nice purple cover.
