Need to buy a birthday present for my 5-year old god-daughter who's just learning to read at school.
Can anyone recommend a good book which she would enjoy reading herself, as I am a bit clueless about 5-year olds!?
I think they already have quite a few books in the house already - so any 'unusual' suggestions would be welcome.

If it's to read by herself, Picnic Farm is nice - my dd is in Reception and bought this book home from the school library last week, she was delighted to be able to read it herself.

Or one of the Dr Seuss/Cat in the Hat first readers.

M&S have a series of "Read yourself fairy tales" type books. DD is 5 and loves them.

Ta for the suggestions and links!
Ladybird books rings a bell from when I was 5 (erm....17 years ago).
Books dont tend to say on them the suitable age like toys do!
