Formulaic 'issue-led' contrived tripe imo.

KatieScarlett2833 · 04/03/2012 14:56

shitey shite from shitesville USA

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/03/2012 14:58

Mind you I have only read one of them.

I was glad when the annoying kid who narrated the book was run over at the end.

Tooblunt2012 · 04/03/2012 14:58

I liked the ones I've read - agree they are contrived but I did enjoy them. I've read a few, but can only think of My Sisters Keeper & another about a woman who searches for missing people.

JasperJohns · 04/03/2012 14:59

Summed up perfectly by KatieScarlett.

Avoid.

dukeofpork · 04/03/2012 15:27

Dreadful and very poorly written. Don't bother!

PositiveAttitude · 04/03/2012 15:38

Awful!! I really thought I was the only person who thought that, obviously not!! Smile

Groovee · 04/03/2012 15:40

I enjoyed Plain Truth, My Sister's Keeper and Salem falls. Harvesting the heart was good. House Rules was disappointing for me.

noddyholder · 04/03/2012 15:43

Very poor

misslinnet · 04/03/2012 16:28

Read a couple and they're generally very irritating.

theonewiththenoisychild · 04/03/2012 18:11

I don't think i'll bother then. Sticking to diane chamberlain i think

carlajean · 04/03/2012 18:12

badly written and so long (had to read one for a book group)

Bluebell99 · 04/03/2012 18:16

I read Jodie Picoult before Diane Chamberlain and I really enjoyed them. they are a similar genre IMHO and if you like Diane chamberlain, you would probably enjoy Jodi Picoult.

Mrsrobertduvall · 04/03/2012 18:18

Oh they are awful.
Start off quite well, then there's the courtroom drama.
Truly dreadful.

1.dysfunctional but rich family
2.really weird and rare situation requiring help from obnoxious lawyer

  1. obnoxious lawyer reveals heart of gold and has sex with his assistant or client's mother (who always leaves pathetic husband as result of weird situation)
4 twist in tale at end. (which is signposted from about chapter 2 on)
theonewiththenoisychild · 05/03/2012 12:45

Can you recommend some books possibly a series or author? as im enjoying diane chamberlain books but at the same time wondering what i'll do when ive read all her books Grin

theonewiththenoisychild · 05/03/2012 12:48

And i used to read childish chick lit but its lost its appeal now. I like the mystery type now or possibly even raunchy romance books

Sister and Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton are both good. I enjoyed the first few of Jodi Picoult's that I read and have just bought the new one Lone Wolf. They are very formulaic though.

I'm halfway through the new Diane Chamberlain Keeper of the Light which is good so far. Also in the same mystery type genre is The Woman Before Me by Ruth Dugdall and The weight of silence and These things hidden by Heather Gudenkauf you might enjoy them if you like Diane Chamberlain.

Whatevertheweather · 05/03/2012 13:00

Have you read The Shadow Wife by Diane Chamberlain? That's the last one I read and thought it was really gripping with a neat twist

theonewiththenoisychild · 05/03/2012 20:03

Will haveto add all of those to my wish list Grin oh dp will be pleased

Shoutymomma · 05/03/2012 20:49

I read one, something to do with a whale, possibly. More irritating than thrush.

CelstialNavigation · 07/03/2012 21:56

She went for quantity over quality very soon after her writing career started to take off.

The only interesting thing about her books these days is the covers with the taglines: "INCREDIBLY UNLIKELY MORAL DILEMMA - WHAT WOULD YOU DO?"

As if its something we should all give serious consideration to .

I tend to think "Well first I'd post in AIBU...". You would definately be accused of trolling though.

EllenParsons · 14/03/2012 18:26

ROFL at "I'd first post in AIBU" Grin

I like Jodi Picoult for light reading. I agree they are a bit formulaic but when I pick one up I know it's light entertainment and not exactly high literature. I read it when in the mood for that and really enjoy it in the same way I would enjoy a bit of a rom com on the telly...
