Hi,

I have just downloaded Room to my Kindle with the chance of hopefully starting tonight.

Has anyone read this?

I just wondered if anyone had any reviews they would like to share? Smile

I loved Room.
Bought Before I go to Sleep a couple of weeks ago.

Can also recommend Sister by Rosamund Lupton.

myflabberisgasted, I was about 52%(!) through Before I Go To Sleep before I took my enforced sabbatical and I've got to finish it as required to make intelligent conversation about it at book club for at least 5 minutes before we move on to the latest playground gossip. I'm not sure quite what's got my back up but hopefully it will race to a thundering denoument and I'll have loved it.

Meanwhile William Boyd is wonderful. He has written many books including Brazzaville Beach (best book ever written by a man about a woman IMHO), Any Human Heart, Restless, A Good Man In Africa and I'm just reading his new one which is called Waiting for Sunrise. If you are just getting in to thriller-y type books Restless is great, though my absolute stand out favourite of his is Any Human Heart. Give him a go, he is well worth it.

Thanks mimble I'll give him a try next I think! I can't believe I've never given thrillers a try before.

And im very jealous of the book club, I've always wanted to join one Smile

I was absolutely gripped by Into The Darkest Corner (Elizabeth Haynes). First book that I have read in a long time that I couldn't put down.

mimbleandlittlemy · 24/02/2012 13:58

myflabber, I'm not sure you'd want to join ours. We seem to eat a lot, drink rather too much and spend not very much time at all talking about the book, so much so that a book is deemed to have provoked considerable comment if we remember to talk about it for longer than about 5 minutes Blush. We are not a shining example of book club probity.

myflabberisgasted · 24/02/2012 16:25

mimble sounds like my kinda book club! Wink

Right, I've finished Before I Go To Sleep. Didn't do it for me, in the same way Sister didn't but I can't put my finger on why.

Have you finished Room?

DuchessofMalfi · 26/02/2012 19:59

That's pretty much how I felt about BIGTS too, mimble. Couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was I didn't like though. I thought I was the only person who didn't like it. Did have a teenage snurk at one point though, with the description of the "bobbing p*nis" o:.

DuchessofMalfi · 26/02/2012 20:00

oops that should have been :o.

myflabberisgasted · 26/02/2012 22:37

Well I've finished room and I think it is possibly one of the best books I have ever read!
I soon got past jack narrating and was just gripped the whole way through it was fantastic!

I never wanted it to finish!

Thanks mimble Smile.
It's a shame you didn't like BIGTS but after reading room it wasn't half as gripping so maybe you should have read BIGTS before room!
