Brokeback Mountain and other short stories about Wyoming, by Annie Proulx. Wanted to read the story before I see the film at the weekend. She is a genius, imho. Not normally a fan of American fiction, but she is the exception to my rule.

hellomama · 24/01/2006 20:55

Tabloid Tales by Piers Morgan. Pure trash but a real insight into the media and politics. Unputdownable!

Bugsy2 · 24/01/2006 20:58

Lacrimosa - what about "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman?

amazon synopsis:
Synopsis
Taking a cynical look at the horror genre, this book features Crowley and Aziraphale, two friends who attempt to prevent the prophesised Armageddon. When the Antichrist is born they divert him from his original home at the American Embassy to Tadfield, where he grows into an unkempt individual.

From the Back Cover
According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter - the world's only totally reliable guide to the future - the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea...

Lacrimosa · 24/01/2006 21:45

mummytosteven · 24/01/2006 21:47

How about Robert Rankin, Lacrimosa? Kind of similar humour to Pratchett.
