What shall I get for my Kindle for a week in the sun plus long plane journeys?

OK, I've got the complete Jane Austen, Dickens and Sherlock Holmes as back up; those were freebies that I thought would be good if I ran out. Not a big Dickens fan though. I've also downloaded the first Game of Thrones book, Kafka on the Shore by Murakami and Such a Long Journey by Rohinton Mistry.

Would like some poetry on it too.

Recently I've loved The Crimson Petal and the White, was not keen on The Northern Clemency and hated The Slap.

I guess I can download stuff there, really, so don't have to panic about running out. But good, well-written and well plotted suggestions, please!

I had a bit of a panic last year before our holiday and was after suggestions to load it up too. One of the things I downloaded was the Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde, its short stories so very easy to dip into when you get an unexpected few minutes to read.

Tiger Hills and the White Tiger are both set in India and both are very different but both very good.

I always like to try and read books set in the country I'm in, are you off to anywhere interesting?

Have checked out the kindle Daily Deal page? Today's is The Book of Human Skin. Not my kind of book :) but it has got great reviews. It's set in Venice, apparently.

Duchess, I've read The Book of Human Skin and it's very good. Written from several perspectives, not only set in Venice but in South America too, witty and interesting. I really love Michelle Lovric's writing - and if you've downloaded Game of Thrones and you liked Crimson Petal I don't see why you wouldn't like her books, tbh.

Each to their own, mimble . I haven't read any of Michelle Lovric's other books, but I read the sample pages on Amazon and wasn't too keen on the style. Not familiar with Game of Thrones or Crimson Petal either.

Get all the rest of the Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones is only the first). They are brilliant, and massively long, so will see you right all the way there, during, and all the way back :)

Duchess, sorry - I was having a brain storm and see that indeed you weren't familiar with either GoT or Crimson Petal so no reason why you should like Book of Human Skin because you weren't the OP. Doh!

Honestly, I don't appear to have two brain cells to rub together any more.
