Would love to read a book and actually enjoy it. Haven't read one in years.

The kind of book that you can't put down. nothing scary or gruelsome.

Storyline thats easy to follow. i like humour.

Suggestions of books or authors please and brief explanation of book.

Thanks

Terry Pratchett's discworld (especially the guards or witches series) A bit fantasy, but really that's just set decoration for the stories.

Sophie Kinsella (more the other SK ones than the MW or shopoholic ones IMO) but all very funny and engaging. Second Bridget Jones too, MUCH better than the films.

My unputdownables are topped with the Jasper Fforde books but may have a few too many literary refs if you're just starting out, and Christopher Brookmyre which may be a bit gory (depends how gruesome you want to avoid - Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks might be ok, but mum never got past chapter 1 of Quite Ugly One Morning - I think it might have been the poo!)

Loved the "Call The Midwife" trilogy recentlly too. If you're into the tv series, they might fit the bill (although the workhouse bits are tearjerkers!)

You could have a go at PG Wodehouse - start with a Blandings Castle or Jeeves and Wooster book. You'll soon know if it's your style and tone.

The thing is that if you do like PGW, there are about 85 books to go at. Funny, impeccable English, brilliantly plotted.

Have a look at the Quick Reads for 2012, haven't read any yet but have read a couple from last year and they were good. Short too so they should hold your attention Smile.

Easy to read humour. Maybe -

About a Boy - Nick Hornby.
Man and Wife/ Man and Boy - Tony Parsons

The book you are after is Starter for ten by David Nicholls. Lad goes off to uni, usual story of partying, meeting girls and trying out for University Challenge. Real easy read, humerous, cringy and a very good read.
